A thought came to mind if two people try to rob me. One guy is armed and I shoot him, of course Im afraid the second guy is armed as well. What do I do in this situation? Obviously I dont want to shoot the other guy if I dont have to but because the first guy has a gun im scared the second guy does also. Please advise. Thank you

There are many variables to this scenario. What does your State lethal force laws say? Variables such as did the unarmed guy threaten you, was he holding an object, 1 or both hands in pocket, etc. Its those elements and variables that could help you in an investigation.

State of Florida, the police here wont do anything unless an actual crime is being committed. A person can even threaten to shoot you and unless he or she acts upon it the police cannot do a thing. I am asking because I had a situation where a guy threatened to shoot someone at my work. The police said "they will be there in 5 minutes if something happens!" 5 minutes equates to 300 seconds. One has to ask themselves how many seconds does it take for a crime to be committed? 10, 20, 30? in any case 300 seconds is too long so it's up to us to protect ourselves.

If they are together and one is armed, then they are both threatening your life. Do you really want to bet your life on whether or not he is actually about to shoot you or not? No matter what the circumstances are, if you discharge your weapon, you had better be sure that you believe that your life was in danger or the court will bury you.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I agree that there are many varibles and multiple decisions to be made and its a good idea to know the local statutes................but if they are acting as a pair trying to rob me, I will shoot the first guy (armed) and if the second guy advances or makes any threatening move (reaching for a weapon, etc.) then I will shoot him as well..........after all armed robbery is a crime and the second guy is obviously guilty of robbery whether he is armed or not, and that is also still a crime.

I am not sure, but I believe that Florida has statutes that cover standing your ground........

The second guy was reaching for the weapon the first one dropped and that is to the best of my recollection.

If the unarmed BG is dumb enough to stick around after you have put rounds into the armed BG; he deserves to be shot too. Call it Darwinism. Seriously, the term here that comes to mind is threat assessment. Deal with the greater of the threats and then re-assess.

I would look at it through a soldiers perspective. You are good, they, the criminals are bad. They have engaged you, you drop them both. Serve some blood pudding.

How do you know "IF" the armed BG is a bigger threat to your life than the unarmed BG?

I've been in situations where the guy with the weapon was NOT the biggest threat. But, the quiet, seething, unarmed guy standing next to him was. Logic may say man with gun/knife is more dangerous. But, you also need to take into account other factors such as proximity, sobriety, demeanor, size & aggression. There is no way of knowing how dangerous someone who attempts an "unarmed" assault may truly be until it's too late.

(Some people can hurt you just as fast --AND/OR-- make you just as DEAD without a "weapon"; such as a gun, knife or club.)

This just confirms that the police are there to take the report, not to protect the individual.

I would almost say theyre both fair game. It all kind of depends on the circumstances, does the Unarmed BG put his hands up right away or does he start reaching? Does he start approaching you after you fire, or sometimes, you just may end up shooting them both, and in most states would be found justified being theyre committing a felony act with intent to cause great bodily harm and you fired on both of them. Now if he starts running, or begs for his life and you shoot....No brainer there.

Agreed, most States consider a felony in progress with multiple BG's is a hand of one is a hand of all. BUT as earlier stated, KNOW your State Laws.

Agreed. In Michigan there have been a few clean shootings with a similar situation, actually one of my friends, friends shot both BGs, only one was seen with a gun, but they were robbing my friends friend and a few of his buddies as they were at a camp fire in his own yard. the BGs demanded money, cellphone and anything of value. He shot and killed one, and the other was in critical condition but managed to get to the hospital.

Can't advise you on a hypothetical situation. There are too many variables in a violent attack. Check your state statutes. Take a good PP class that includes an overview of the law. One thing to remember... you can't use deadly force against a person who does not present an imminent threat.
