I live in Ohio and need to take a class that is accepted for the Florida CCW. Any other Ohioans out there that can give me some info? I live in central Ohio and have no idea what classes are out there. I called about 5 local people giving them in Ohio and they had no clue.

PS. Does the Florida FFL show up on the cops "radar" if you get pulled over in Ohio? Just curious.

I live in Ohio and the Police know as soon as they pull you over, and run your plate if your carrying or not.
They have a central data base, and it comes up on their computer in the patrol car. Learned this from the Sheriff's office and local police. Highway patrol has the same system. Sorry I can't help with the Florida issue.

Florida accepts the NRA Basic Pistol Course for CCW. Just find an NRA instructor in your area. go to NRAInstructors.org - Portal for NRA certified Instructors, NRA Education and Training and it will help you find a course near you.

Do you already have your concealed handgun permit in Ohio? If you do then you are go to go in Florida. Florida honors resident Ohio CHP and vice versa.

Why are you looking to get a Florida permit? If you are a resident of Ohio and will be traveling to Florida I would just get your Ohio permit and you are good in both states. I live in Florida and my Dad lives in Ohio we travel back and forth several times a year without any issues, I having my Florida Permit and my dad having his Ohio permit.

If you're really looking to get you resident or nonresident Florida permit call this number 850-245-5691. They should be able to answer any of you Florida permit questions.

Hope this helps....

By the way, our CWP and (I believe) FFL are not tired to our driver licenses in Florida. You also do not have to inform the office you are carring unless asked by the office. If you choice not to.

Thanks for the info. I don't have an Ohio CCW or any other yet. I have been told by many to go with Florida over Ohio for many reasons.

I have also been told that The Ohio cops will not be flagged if you have a Florida CCW. No proof of that yet.

Just verify that Ohio honors nonresident Florida permits then call that number. They can send you a packet with all the paperwork and requirements needed for the permit.

One other thing to keep in mind, If you get your Florida permit and get stopped in Ohio. Even though it will not show up when they run your tag you are still required by law to inform them you are carring.

Ohio verifies non-resident FL ccw permits. I was in Ohio the other day. I spoke with the Ohio Highway Patrol and got verification from the NRAILA website, the florida dept of agriculture website (who manages the reciprocity list for FL ccw) and this site.

I already had gotten my packet in the mail(3days). I am really concerned what course I have to complete here in Ohio. Most of the Florida courses are only 3 hours. The Ohio courses are 10 hours with mandatory 2 hour range time. I found a course offered by a local Police officer. He is "op0ta"certified. (Ohio Police Officer Training Academy). That should qualify under the last one in the list below. I will call them tomorrow and verify it.

Here is the Florida requirements:
Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission or a similar agency of another state;
• Completion of any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;
• Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators,
special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;
• Presents evidence of equivalent experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competition
or military service (persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card;
discharged persons may submit a copy of the DD-214);
• Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state or a county or municipality of this state, unless such
license has been revoked for cause;
• Completion of any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle
Association-certified firearms instructor.
• Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law enforcement,
junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school, utilizing
instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission,
or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services;

OH LEOs will not know you have a FL license...however, as mentioned, OH law says you must inform if carrying...doesn't matter what state's license you have.

It sounds like that's what you need....just make sure this course includes live fire portion. Also, since this would be an OH class...I'd recommend ALSO getting the OH license....

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, the CCW classes in Ohio are mandated to have 2 hours of range time(live fire). Yes, I do realize that I have to alert the officer to the fact I am carrying. I am not interested in carrying a gun as much as I am concerned with carrying one in my vehicle leagally loaded. I travel quite a bit and feel I am most vulnerable in my car.

I will attempt to get the Ohio CCW first, but a non expungeable misdemeanor from 17 years ago may prevent me from getting an Ohio CCW. Hence the reason for getting a Florida CCW. My friend with an almost identical situation was denied an Ohio CCW.

I have gotten a "relief of disability" granted from the offending court, but I still get flagged by Nics when purchasing a gun. I end up getting a proceed, but it is usually delayed a few hours to a day. I have also sent in my info to the FBI to get a # to prevent this in the future, but they are so backed up, it currently takes136 days.
