Ohio State Parks

I can't really get a straight answer from anyone ,on either side about whether or not you can carry your fire ARM there or not. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Man honestly I called the Lakewood police because I didn't want to carry at the park and get into trouble . They said there's no sign up go for it . Might want to call local police they are helpful . Open carry is legal in Ohio also

There are some large unidentifiable "things" walking around Ohio's state parks and I wouldn't go hiking or camping in one unarmed whether legal or not.

You can carry in any Ohio park, state or local. If any signs are posted otherwise, they are in violation of Ohio Revised Code General Provision 9.68. Ohioans for Concealed Carry would like to know about any you find so they can take action to have them removed. If you aren't a member of the forum and don't want to join, you can just send me a PM with the details and I'll pass the info along.

The parks may be okay but buildings are another story. Government buildings are enumerated no carry zones in Ohio. However, in accordance with changes made to ORC 2923.126 last year, any building that is used primarily as a shelter, restroom, parking facility for motor vehicles, or rest facility is not included in that restriction, so you can still use the shelters and outhouse buildings.

I can't speak for Ohio, but a good website to go to that will answer all of those kinds of questions, in any state, is Handgunlaw.us Just click on the state you're interested in knowing what the law says concerning concealed carry, on the interactive map, and it will cover where you can and can't carry, whether you are required to notify law enforcement or not, what other states honor your permit, etc. I have it on my smart phone, too, so I can quickly check other states as I travel around the US.

Thanks

Thank you for the information. Couldn't find anyone who really knows or wants to stick their head out in case they didn't know what the correct answer is.

One thing to be aware of is that even though all parks in the state are legal for carry, any property managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers is off limits.

Thanks for adding that. That restriction may not be may not be in place much longer. H.R.1865, the Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act of 2011, was introduced in the House last year. It ended up becoming an amendment to H.R.2354, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2012, which passed the House and was sent to the Senate last July. The amendment defunds enforcement of the anti-gun restriction on Army Corps of Engineers property. Another amendment doing the same thing was attached to the Senate Transportation Bill in February. I've got my fingers crossed.
