CHARDON, Ohio - Gunfire at a high school outside Cleveland injured a number of students Monday morning, and at least one suspect has been taken into custody, officials said.

FBI agent Scott Wilson said that there was one suspected shooter, who is in custody. He said four students were wounded in the shooting but wouldn't discuss the extent of the students' injuries.

"CBS This Morning" correspondent John Miller reports that at least one of the students was critically injured.

The shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. at the 1,100-student Chardon High School about 30 miles east of Cleveland, said Civil Deputy Erin Knife of the Geauga County Sheriff's Office.

Television news footage showed anxious parents escorting children away from a school building, and ambulances could be seen outside. CBS affiliate WOIO-TV in Cleveland reports the high school was evacuated and students were taken to an elementary school to be picked up by their parents. Students on school buses were dropped off back at their homes.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland's MetroHealth System said a medical helicopter was dispatched to the high school. Schools in the area were locked down.

Bob Herp, a Chardon trauma nurse, was at a command scene at a local Wal-Mart store where he said helicopters were on the ground.>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>> Many questions to be asked. Mine are>>>
Where did shooter get the gun?
Was this individual ever in trouble before or display violent behavior before and was he known to Law Enforcement or school administrators for such behavior?
Did this kid take or was he ever on and taken off "mood altering" prescription meds?

One of the CNN reporters claimed that a school official said that it appeared there had been some internet communication regarding the event over the weekend, suggesting it might have been brewing for awhile.

But I take that with a grain of salt until there is more info. It could have a been a teacher just speculating as to whether there was any chatter on the net over the weekend, which the reporter then turned into an assertive statement.

We'll have to see if there were signs that would have made this preventable. Just paying attention and acting accordingly might have done so.

Hits close to home. This school is actually closer to where I grew up than the high school I attended. Not good.

One of the victims died. Apparently one of the teachers chased the shooter out of the building. I just told my husband a while ago that things would have been different if the teacher is allowed to carry a gun inside the school property. The shooter is under 18 years of age.

Imagine if you will...

A gang banger, all decked out in his colors, advancing down the school hallway, drawing a gun and begins to fire randomly at student not of his colors.

Now, imagine if you will, the panicked herd of students retreating down the hall away from the shooter, separating around a teacher standing her ground. Before the gang banger realizes this teacher isn't going to run, the teacher raises her legally owned and carrier XD40, showing great skill and courage, puts 4 in center mass before the gang banger realizes what is happening. The screams of the students are fading in the background as the sound of the dead limp gang banger hits the floor.

But nope! Teachers aren't allowed to carry weapons. Ever for times like this. But... I can hope.

This entire story is probably not true.
Public Schools are strictly enforced "Gun Free Zones".
Things like this can never happen in a Gun Free Zone.

I had some of the same question. We will soon know, someone is out there trying to blame the gun. I heard the shooter had posted on-line, as early as Dec. 30,2011 some disturbing quotes. We will be getting more info I am sure.

Unofficial statements say he was a loner who was bullied. School officials claim they have a good bullying program. Apparently it's not working. These hug-a-thug school officials don't punish anyone. Hell, we can't even keep score in little-league out of fear of hurting some kid's self-esteem. Bullying programs without teeth just result in more abuse.

As we all look for reasons remember... what happened to crazy?

Wasn't this a gun-free zone? I mean seriously not to be sarcastic, but don't we have laws regarding firearms on school property? I'm just blown back by this.

Full of **** like always.
