Carry in a vehicle, does it have to be in plain view.Condition of carry?
Have Tn out of state ccw permit but have to be back in ohio for about weeks stay later in march, dont desire to offend local cops.
My understanding is while permit is good for cc,transport in vehicle is different.
Wont be in any major cities.

According to opencarry.org, you may carry a weapon in a vehicle in plain sight if you have a license to carry a firearm, in Ohio.
So I would think if you have a ccw that you can lay it in the seat beside you and go on down the road...

I live and carry in Ohio. The state firearm laws regarding licensed concealed carry have nothing special about carrying in a car. You can carry it locked & loaded on your person, in your glove compartment, on the seat next to you, hung from the mirror, whatever -- as long as you have control of the weapon and it's not reasonably available to anyone else that would not be permitted to have the weapon. Really no different then walking around with it.

This comes from the Ohio Conceal Carry Handbook,

Transporting in Motor Vehicles
The transportation in motor vehicles of loaded, concealed handguns by licensed permit holders is permitted. You may not have a loaded handgun in the vehicle if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Traffic Stops and Other Law Enforcement Encounters
If a person is stopped for a law enforcement purpose and is carrying a concealed handgun as a CCW licensee, whether in a motor vehicle or not, he shall inform the law enforcement officer that he is carrying a concealed handgun. If in a vehicle, the licensee shall remain in the vehicle and keep his hands in plain sight at all times. Violating this section of law is a first-degree misdemeanor, and in addition to any other penalty handed down by a court, may result in the suspension of the person’s concealed handgun license for one year.

I don't know of any state that has any more restrictions for carrying a firearm inside a vehicle vice outside the vehicle IF the person has a recognized permit/license (although some states have more relaxed restrictions inside vehicles, for holders of recognized permits). The only time there may be more restrictions inside a vehicle than outside a vehicle is for those without a recognized license/permit, and Ohio is one of those states. Without a permit/license, you may openly carry a loaded firearm outside the vehicle, but inside the vehicle not only must the gun be unloaded, but the magazines must be unloaded as well.

Taken directly from the Ohio Concealed Carry Laws Manual:

Transporting in Motor Vehicles
The transportation in motor vehicles of loaded, concealed handguns by licensed permit holders is permitted. You may not have a loaded handgun
in the vehicle if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Motorcycles fall under the definition of motor vehicles. Thus, the same requirements apply to licensees who carry a handgun while on a motorcycle.

Traffic Stops and Other Law Enforcement Encounters
If a person is stopped for a law enforcement purpose and is carrying aconcealed handgun as a CCW licensee, whether in a motor vehicle or not, he
shall inform the law enforcement officer that he is carrying a concealed handgun. If in a vehicle, the licensee shall remain in the vehicle and keep his hands in plain sight at all times.

Thanks what I read must have pertained to without a cc lic,as read open on seat or in sight and unloaded =what the.

That's good news! Did they do away with the "must notify" too?

Unfortunately, no. Maybe we'll see that happen during this legislative session although the Sandy Hook incident has complicated matters and my fear is pro-gun legislation will be more difficult to get passed because of the current political atmosphere.

We'll get notification removed eventually.

We just need to keep the "Harless Trilogy" running on endless loop...
