I'll let the video speak for itself. Three to one odds, and at least one of them armed. Of course, as a LEO, no one really questions his right to carry concealed while off duty.

Actually, I disagree. The city of Chicago doesn't afford him the "right" to carry, they afford him special privileges. Perhaps more disgusting than the thought of any one of us finding ourselves being denied the same privilege under the exact same circumstances and in the same location, as a LEO, this same Sheriff's Deputy would arrest us if we disregarded the denial of that privilege and reacted just exactly as he did.

I don't want him disarmed while off duty, I want the denial of rights of the citizens and the hyper-hypocrisy of tyrants to stop, including the hyper-hypocrisy of the tyrants' enforcers. I want every single citizen who is so inclined to be able to meet that kind of threat at that exact place in the world exactly the same way that off duty cop did without having to fear being shot by that same cop if he were on duty.

There is no question in my mind that it was a justified self-defense shooting, and I find myself not even really giving a second thought to the dead perp, but I can't give the cop a fist-bump and say good job. Just too many issues surrounding the location, the unequal treatment between citizen and cop, the specter of how this cop would treat a citizen who did the same thing as him, just all of it kind of sickens me. Can't help it.

From another article:

"On Tuesday night, friends of the alleged robber who was killed left tokens of mourning at the gas station where police say the cook county sheriff's sergeant acted in self-defense..."

Boohoo...I'm just overcome with grief.

Im not sorry the bad guy was killed, he got what he deserved. And the off duty cop saved all of us tax payers a lot of money.

You pay Chicago and/or Illinois state taxes living in Idaho? I didn't realize a juvenile armed robbery was a federal rap. If it is the case though, I guess you're right.

Blues, how a reg person would be treated it a like situation depends a lot on where exactly you live, around here once the LEOs seen the video, I don't think there would be any issue, my wife and I have had CCWs for 8-9 years now been stopped for minor stuff maybe a half dozen times, only once has a LEO made the slightest derogatory remark about my gun, now in good weather when on the bike I'm 99% of the time OP, I have been followed several dozen times, I know there running my ID to see if I'm a god knows what with a gun, the one time I guess this dude was afraid of his shadow, pulled me over on the bike, I was haulin at the time, once he realized I had a gun he radios for two other cops to (guard) me while he does his thing never did do anything other than stand there no cuffs, never ever even asked to see the gun, gives me the ticket, and I went on my way, called a LT bud on the force told him what went down, he laughed, said he would expect as much out of that donut muncher, changed my ticket to a warning, asked if I was going to the range sat? we met at the range shot a bit, had lunch, and talked about dips*** cops, ...........

My previous post expressed the level of disgust it did specifically because it happened in Chicago. You know, that happy little Utopia that had as draconian gun control before the McDonald ruling (@ SCOTUS) as D.C. had before Heller? The city where the Chief of Police warned the citizens that....well.... Here's what he said:

“I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.” --Chicago’s Police Chief Gary McCarthy

Everything I surmised as being the likely outcome if that off duty cop encountered a newly-empowered private citizen with a gun is validated as actually being likely because the CoP has made it Department Policy, and done so out loud and in public.

It wasn't a "general" screed against cops, it was specifically related to the dangers that new concealed carriers face from their own local and state policing agencies specifically in Chicago.

If I owned the gas station, I would have policed my surroundings and thrown them away.

Thanks for the B&W post, I hadn't seen that yet. Looks like the officer did not hit the "instant off switch" on the gunman, but still good enough shot placement to drop him and stop the threat.

What you fail to realize is that CHI Cop is afforded those "priveleges" bcuz he is one of the (sub)royals/elites. He is one step down from the RAHM EMANUEL elites and ilk.
What needs to be done is to disarm the cops so there is NO street protection (i.e. LONDON Bobby) so the people begin to realize that they all are serfs and not worthy of ANY protection. Only then will the citizens begin to understand that the politicians/animals they elect are in power only to feather their own nests and STEP ON the taxpayers. You gots to EDUCATE dem.
Also, judges need to be disarmed so they realize it's a jungle out on the street which needs to be cleaned up; no wrist-slapping or early release and not worry about jail overcrowding. It's called PUNISHMENT.
Speaking of jail overcrowding - WHO is it that brought up that law suit ? Those elite lawyers (who go on the be JUDGES) !

Well, many lawyers need to be put in jail, (uhhh, no, they need to be in hard-core, big house PRISON) too. They defend and stand up for the (guilty) criminals to the point that many of them (even tho they ARE guilty) get off scott free. But the judges/lawyers have their protection and live in armed, protected, gated communities. If they deserve protection, then we do too. On the converse, if WE don't deserve protection, nobody else does, either....

So I ax this question - HOW LONG will the people of Illinoisey have to wait on their CCWPs now that it has passed ?

This is going to sound morbid, maybe even a little cruel, but I would like to know what the gunman said in his last moments. He raised his head up and appeared to speak a couple of times.

rogrrr, I like your (never will happen) story, but I think you need to add that all politicians and in office need to lose their taxpayer supplied body guards and secret service. As long as they are paying the thugs and are protected by a wall of kevlar, they never will take off their rose colored glasses.

Howdy,

One think we know for sure........... The gunman will NEVER try to rob anyone at gunpoint again.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Eventhough the gunman was a thug that actually got what he deserved, he was still someone's son, brother and friend. I can feel for them for their lose but he still got what he deserved.

Paul

P.S. We need to give the Deputy a Medal!

Have to ask, how can a right be unalienable and not allowed at the same time?

It surprises me that even you would "have to ask." It's that whole "enemy of the state" thing that you've already proven you're quite confused about, and as with most elementary, easy-to-understand-the-origins-of abuses of authority, if I have to explain, you wouldn't understand anyway.

From what I have heard of other shootings, the "kids" ask for their Mom to hold them before dying. It is sad that this 16 year old was out with a gun looking for an easy way to make money. The day my oldest boy turned 16 he was filling out applications looking for a job. He made over $6000 last year. How many stick ups would these kids have to pull to make that each?

You've given me a great idea. We all need propose to, and lobby our legislators to introduce a bill prohibiting any legislator from having body guards while in office. I'd like to see this to include the president but we know that won't fly.
If this bill were passed, we would see more push to allow carry permits since each legislator would (have to) get his own permit and then realize how guns do reduce crime.

You know what's even more funny about that? I received no formal firearms training prior to qualifying and receiving my LEO ID and badge. At that point I could carry virtually anywhere in the country and had no more training that what I had taken the time to acquire on my own time like most other law abiding gun carriers in the country.

Which, statistically-speaking*, means you're a much better gun-handler than all the "highly-trained" super-hero cops in the country. If you've got any of those types in your agency (that came from other, more "highly-trained" jurisdictions), you not only have to protect the public from bad guys, but you might just find yourself in a position of protecting your agency from its own officers. Quite a pickle you've gotten yourself into! LOL

*Relevant quote from link:

Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606)(25). And readers of Newsweek learned that "only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high."(26)
