my wife and i just passed our c.c. class. we were told to call before going to the sheriffs department to complete the registration process. i called the trumbull county sherriff, and that dept. has very restrictive hours to come in and apply. what is the deal? we live in mahoning county, northeast ohio, and we are applying in trumbull county because it is supposedly quicker. mahoning county takes approximately 6-8 weeks, where trumbull county takes 1-2. we were told it is because the sheriff in mahoning county is against the concealed carry, so he drags his feet when issuing the licence. the days are mon. wed. and thurs. from 7am to 1145 am in trumbull county. what if you have a full time job? do you take time off to get your licence application? in my opinion, and many others, our sheriffs dept. is a joke in the first place. with so many residents having the same opinion of the sheriff dept. wouldn't you think they would be more accommodating to the ones who pay their salary? how long does the process take? we fill out mostly everything, all they have to do is fingerprint and submit, or am i wrong? i am sure there is more to it, but in my opinion, they should give the taxpayers more opportunity in the way of longer hours and/or more days for application.

You can go to any "adjoining" County. You are supposed to get it within 45 Days. Yes, some people have taken time off to do this. Including me.

In Michigan we must apply in our own county, and applications are examined by a board that reportedly takes between 6 and 8 weeks for the CCW to be approved. I haven't heard the status of my own application yet. Good luck!

I feel your pain. I live in Medina County and had to take vacation time to apply. However, once at the sheriff's office, it only took about 15 minutes to complete the forms and get my prints recorded digitally. You can try calling Columbiana, Stark, Portage Counties and see how they are doing as you can apply in any of those counties.

BTW I picked up my permit in 7 days from the sheriff.

good luck with your permit.

I live in NC and it the state has up to 90 days to process a CCH permit. You have to go to the sheriff's office in your county of residence to process your paperwork. You make an appointment so you do not have to wait around. Mine took about 5 weeks ( they have up to 90 days ) to get my permit. Everything has to go to the Feds and the police databases have to be updated to identify your plates to LEOs that car is the property of a CCH permit holder. as It would have taken only a couple of weeks but I moronically sent my paperwork the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. NC is an Open Carry state so you can get to the range, etc. ok, just not concealed. In NC, the sheriff is an elected position, so he better follow the law. A few well-timed letters to the editor should get his attention. Fortunately, here in Transylvania county we have an excellent department. Mikey

My wife and I went to the Trumbull sheriff office in downtown Warren. Took all of about 15 minutes for the two of us. In exactly two weeks to the day they called us to come pick up of permits. The women that handles the process is very quick and efficient ( finger prints, info, and payment) they call you when the sheriff approves it and tell what day to come and pick it up. You go in verify that all the info is correct get your picture taken wait a few minutes for license to print and your done. Took about twenty minutes then. No issues very proficient process

I live in Summit County, but went to Portage County for the same reason, the Summit County Sheriff waits as long as legally possible to send permits. The process in Portage took about 20 minutes and they mailed my permit to me. I had it on day 7. My wife got her permit in Portage a year later and had exactly the same experience. They are friendly, efficient, and very helpful.

If you think your sheriff is bad, I was told by a resident the shurf in Defiance County (near Toledo) has openly stated that if you OC, he will arrest you.
Ohio is an Open Carry state and HE IS VIOLATING THE LAW !
If you have heartburn with how your sheriff is handling applications, write a letter to the Attorney General and file a complaint against him.

I live in Sandusky county so i just used that department since it was close and i was in no hurry.
They have limited hours i think it was 9-11 and 1-3 on Thursday.
Walked in without appointment and hand my license in hand 15 minutes later.
Acording to the instructor where i took my class Wood county is just as fast.
