Obtaining additional CCW permits?

I have just recently applied for my VA CCW permit (just waiting for it in the mail). But I have heard once I get VA's, I should apply for non-resident CCWs from a few additional states to maximize my ability to carry in as many states as possible since not all states have reciprocity with every other state. It was suggested that after getting my VA permit, I should get one from FL. Is this good advice? Should I get other states as well? What state(s) do you suggest to maximize my coverage?

Depends on where you want to carry. My SC resident won't allow me to carry in MS, AL, or GA. I'm going to apply for the AZ non-resident as it picks those states up and a few others. I'd go to the map at the top and start plugging in permits to see what it'll take to get what you want.

AZ will add AL, GA, KS, NV to your existing VA coverage. $60/$43 initial/renewal. VA permit is the training.

UT will add AL, GA, MN, WA to your existing VA coverage. $65/$15 initial/renewal. Requires UT specific class.

FL will add AL, GA, KS, WA to your existing VA coverage. $117 initial/renewal. The training your took for VA might suffice.

Just remember, reciprocity doesn't exempt you from the gun free school zone law. You have to get a nonresident licence to be anywhere within 1000" of a school.

I received my Utah permit and for a CT resident it opened up the most states for me. Florida is next and will open up 3 mores states.

I just hope the NRA (Nat'l Reciprocity Act) passes so we can all avoid this confusing crap of where and where not to legally carry and to do that we MUST rid the vermin from the WH

If you're a VA resident, then a FL or UT non-resident will give you the most bang for your buck. FL is more expensive, but doesn't require training from a utah certified instructor. They will both give you the same amount of states. With UT, you can MN, but not KS. With FL, you can KS, but not MN. Get both if you want MN and KS. But that taps you out of reciprocity on the non-res permits.

Beyond that, play around with the map at: Concealed Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps

If you want to carry in any red colored states, you'll have to apply for their non-resident ones directly, if applicable. Realistically, these are: ME, MA, NH, and CT which issue by mail to non-residents fairly easily. NV and RI have state specific requirements. in the former, you have to get training there, but it's easy. In RI, you have to pick it up in person, it's may issue (despite the coloring), and you have to "qualify" with a certain score. OR requires you to own property in a neighboring state. All other red ones do not issue to non-residents.
