Dear NYPD,
Help me understand why my image of the NPD has been turned upside down.
First, a little about me: I'm a libertarian, CWP-holdn', gun-totin', NRA member, Reagan Saved The World guy. I've owned guns for more than 40 years. I hunt. I shoot IDPA. I believe the Second Amendment is what protects all the others. My father was a reserve deputy sheriff. I'm certified by my state to teach response driving to police driving instructors. Some of my friends are cops. I grew up, went to college, and worked in the Deep South. Once Bull Connor and his ilk were evicted, I believed police were community helpers. (Granted I have resentment against the police because all of my professional interaction has been with them as Revenuers, collectors of Speed Tax.)
Then I see a videos of NYPD pulling non-threatening and random people off the sidewalk and into the street in order to charge them with being in the street. Occupy 1 year anniversary Sept 17th Journalist Arrest - YouTube
I read stuff like this: My arrest at Occupy Wall Street - CNN.com
I accept that Occupy has been co-opted by thugish unions, and violent homeless people.
However, the NYPD's response would make ol' Bull blush. I have first-hand reports of the NYPD committed battery on (there is no other term) people who were legally walking on the sidewalk, standing legally in a public area, or aspiring to follow NYPD orders. Even if those people were shouting, disobeying orders, or spitting in your faces, Contempt of Cop is not a crime.
I hear Mayor Bloomberg, who wants to take my guns from me, say he controls the "seventh largest army in the world." That's something I expect from Hugo Chavez, Castro, or someone planning a coup.
Tell me why the NYPD hasn't become a beatified military run by a statist. Frankly, I'm scared to come visit my daughter and walk on public sidewalks with her. I'm not scared of criminals. I'm afraid of the NYPD.
---Smack
P.S. After the Empire State Building shooting and other shootings, tell me why all NYPD officers shouldn't be disarmed until y'all learn to shoot only the bad guys.
