NYPD looks to scan people on the street for guns

Makes me want to go get one of those cheesy lighters that looks like a gun, put it in my waistband, and wander around NYC just to annoy the hell out of the cops who're using the detectors.

I'm sure all of us know about or could google "Articles of Secession". Does anybody know if there is a site where we might find prepared "Articles of Expulsion" for those 'not really American' jurisdictions?

Take Care.

I have a hard time seeing this really getting on its feet. Lots if organizations, not just gunners will take issue to this.

Are you F...ing kidding me? When will someone do something so these states will have to observe the constitution? It just goes on and on and on. This needs to be addressed

I would hope there would still need to be probable cause in detaining and searching. These guys do have a tough job and any tool that can help get criminals off the street would have my vote. Even the bad guys carry concealed.. isn't that one of the many reasons we go armed.

Just another reason to stay clear of NY lol...This would only really be cost effective in a LARGE city with a high concentration of people on foot. If they did this in MN, I wouldn't care, I have a permit anyway. Plus would that really be that hard to trick? Like mentioned above. A foil square would break up the outline and it would look like a phone....Or even a thin piece of metal.

Those of us in upstate NY wish NYC would secede. They hijack the state vote because nearly 40% of the population lives in the city.

NYC has seen a significant reduction in crime over the past ten years. Manhattan is now among the safest large cities in America. So why are they wasting the taxpayer's money with this hare-brained technology?

George Orwell is rolling over in his grave right now.
It is beyon my realm of comprehension how the citizens of New York City could stand by and not screem to high heavens about this. Talk about a violation of the Constitutional rights of the citizenry.

There was a heated thread a couple of weeks ago when one of us went to a New York City web site and challenged the citizens to stand up for their 2A rights. The comments on the site ran roughly 5 to 1 against the 2A. I would imagine those same "citizens" are all in favor of this. From their comments, for the majority, they are the people that expect the police to save them in an emergency.

They were more bent out of shape because they were called "sheeple" than they were about the draconian gun restrictions that have already been put on them. Don't confuse the citizens of New yor STATE and New York CITY. The 2 only sound alike.

There would be no way to tell a person with a conceal carry permit from say a drug dealer so they would be stopping everyone all the time.

I'm telling you, these people don't care about the second amendment. They're in another world in that city. That's the problem we have upstate. NYC controls the vote in both state and national elections. Even if 80% of the entire upstate population votes republican that little island will swing the election in favor of the democrat. We need an electoral method of voting because our vote is nullified by the city. Based on my experience with NYC residents we stand zero chance of changing the laws.

Even short range is dangerous invasion

Yes this is a violation of unreasonable search. I can envision an integrated scan and camera set up at various choke points in a city. It would be a simple matter for the police to collect multifrequency images of an individual for identification. They could later find a reason to stop the individual and proceed with a frisk to "discover" a weapon.

Because a technology exists, is not a reason to employ it to screen the general public.

The news report did not indicate the possible harm from the electromagnetic radiation the device would paint the public with while scanning them.

Apparently, they've never heard of the fourth Amendment, you know, the one that says in part, "...the right of the people to be secure in their persons, papers, houses, and effects from unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be infringed..." Apparently, that must not be the case in PRNYC.

Do you Vote?

Unfortunately, this seems to be the trend in NYC. They have come to believe a lawfully armed citizen is a "criminal". they truly believe the police will save them in an imenent danger situation. Millions of votes in NYC and not an equal number of votes in the rest of NY.
An evaluation of electoral system as NYC governs NY state.

And sad but true is this trend has been occurring for the past 30 years in all of America. As a lifetime gun owner I have seen gun owner rights be trashed in the 80's and 90's, and finally here in the 20teens people are waking up to the truth that the government will protect them, and now realize they are on their own.

If a gun owner is not an NRA member and supporting the NRA financially they are only wishing away their gun rights, as the NRA does have a voice in goverment and gun owners need to get off their behinds and vote on a regular basis and regain some of our lost rights.

As of 2010 census roughly 310 million people in USA, 80 million gun owners and yet we sit on our duffs and allow these pitiful laws be instituted. If you allow for 20% of the 310 million for under age of 18, there are roughly 240 million voters, the estimated 80 million gun owners are over 18 to be categorized as a gun owner. So gun oners are 1/3 of the populus. If every gun owner was to vote we could elect anyone we desire into political office as roughly only 60% of the populus vote.

arguments one side, two side or no opinion.......

What is the solution? The city had a parade in which 48 people had been shot in 24 hours. That sure does not sound like the safest city in the United States. Any rational ideas, outside of shootouts on crowded, tightly packed city streets? Yes, there are many fine citizens worthy of concealed carry. Will this argument always be 1. one sided (prohibitions) 2. two side (concealed carry) Would anyone argue that there is always one side to the argument in favor of less or more restrictions. Scan for guns? Sounds great, but in what year 2080?

While in theory this could be used for good (disarming criminals) it begs to wonder how many innocent people legally carrying will end up getting hassled. Or possibly illegally carrying citizens that can't afford to jump thru the hoops of getting a permit from his majesty Bloomberg the I. - but have nothing more evil in mind than protecting themselves. Which they ought to be able to, given the fact that it happens to be protected in the constitution.

Bottomline, police state here we come. George Orwell would have loved this.
