NYC First Hand

All who will vote next week need to understand what's happening in NYC right now. It's a complete disgrace. We finally found a friend who's been out of touch since Monday. He lives on Rockaway Beach. House is partially gone. Garage and cars are gone. He can't even find one of the cars.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no outside help at all. Lack of electricity is only the beginning. Obama did his photo-op in NJ and went back to campaigning. There is no clean water, no food, no stores, no supplies, no clothing, no heat or hot water, no bathroom facilities, no gasoline, no generators, no baby formula or diapers, no chain saws or tools. Mostly, there has been ZERO response from NY or the federal government. No FEMA or Red Cross personnel present. There are no police or firemen. There is no help at all. There is no transportation or clear roads for those who want to leave. People have no way to leave the area. People haven't eaten since Monday. They're burning wood from the houses to stay warm. Did I say no response from NYC or the federal government? What we're seeing on the news doesn't begin to describe it. There's no gasoline within 60 miles of the city in every direction. Tankers are stacked in the Hudson waiting to unload crude to the refineries. I waited 20 minutes for gas yesterday and that was an hour North of the city.

Bloomberg refuses to cancel the NYC Marathon which starts in Staten Island, the site of some of the worst damage. People occupying hotel rooms have been told to vacate to make room for the tens of thousands of runners coming. They're kicking the elderly and children into the street. While there is no power or sewage facilities Bloomberg has four industrial generators, heaters and hundreds of port-a-potties at the marathon starting line. Local residents have been chased away and aren't allowed to use the facilities. They're using wooded areas as bathrooms.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few of us are loading up tonight to bring what we can back down. It's so massive that this minor effort is almost pointless. We're packing two pickup trucks with generators, gas grills, food, bottled water, clothing and blankets. We'll bring this stuff to Rockaway beach tomorrow morning. A few chain saws to help some people get trees off their homes. At this time there are about 100,000 homes that have been destroyed completely or are uninhabitable.

Obama supporters need to know this when they go to the polls on Tuesday. Once again the MSM is underplaying the failure. WHERE IS FEMA!!!!!!

A member of my family works in management with Alabama Power and Light told me NJ has be turning non union utility workers away, let them sit in the dark.

That's the problem with unions. The people need help. Why not just pay them union wages and put them to work? Crazy state.

Just goes to show... People need to be prepared and that counting on government is a lost cause. By the way, just where did all the money for FEMA and all the disaster relief go anyway? It sure as hell isn't getting used on what it's supposed to be.

BC1: Kudos to you and those helping you help others. Wish there was some way we could help from down here but, as had been mentioned, the unions are flexing their muscles to prevent outside help. Just think, with the Liberals, that is what the rest of the country has to look forward to in the future!

Obama said that he will "cut the red tape" to make things happen to get help to the Sandy victims. That is admittance that his liberal policies don't work, that big government gets in the way of the people.

Of course most people are too stupid to understand that.

Cut the Red Tape is even BS. The governor has suspended fees and licenses necessary for tankers to unload gas. Obama can do nothing. But the press swoons.

What a sick, confused and backwards azz ********* up country we live in. Policies, people and unions that stand in the way. The hell with them and just do what needs done.

It's real bad down there. We're not used to this sort of thing in NY. Those in the south are better prepared. Most roads aren't passable. The water pretty much receded on its own in most areas but left sand dunes and massive amounts of debris. Most people are pulling out rugs, wood flooring, tile and cutting the drywall off where the water-line was to stop mold from setting-in. Still no electric or heat and it's pretty cold. Around 28-30 degrees at night. Sleet, freezing rain and wind is forecasted for Wednesday. Some supplies are getting through, like water and some food but there won't be heat or electric for a long time. These people will need to find elsewhere to live. They'll never get this mess cleaned up before winter sets-in. Manhattan is much better but the real damage is in Queens and Staten Island. These people are tired. They look like they're ready to drop. A lot are just getting the valuables out of the house and are now leaving. People are relying on each other and everyone is pitching in. There hasn't been any violence and only a few punk looters. The crime rate in NYC dropped 32% this week. Gas is a real problem even as far as an hour north of the city. About 75% of our gas stations upstate are closed and those that still have gas have lines of cars from NJ. Bloomy is getting heckled everywhere he goes.

God bless you guys.

I have lived through a couple of minor disasters, just not as big of a deal when you live in the sticks. I cannot imagine this in major metro areas.
