Heads up...

The NV legislature's Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice will be meeting on 08-28-2012.

Part of the agenda for that meeting will be discussion on whether or not to implement a state level "assault weapon" ban.
Information will only be presented by NV law enforcement (most likely LVMPD), the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence (CA anti-gun group) and the NRA. Even though there will be no public comment for this topic, the Nevada Firearms Coalition is asking people to attend and show support.

The current chairman of the commission is anti-gun, he's the person who prevented "campus carry" for CCW permit holders and opposed the various "castle doctrine" bills from last session.

The Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice will be meeting in...
Room 3137 of the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St., Carson City, NV.
Videoconferenced to Room 4412 of the Grant Sawyer State Office Building, 555 E. Washington Ave., Las Vegas, NV.

Nevada UPDATE: NRA Informed that Public Comment WILL Be Taken During Nevada Legislative Interim Committee on "Assault Weapons"
Posted on August 21, 2012

On Tuesday, August 28, the state Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice (also called a legislative interim committee) will be holding a public hearing to discuss a number of issues, one of which will be so-called "Assault Weapons." (For more information on the often abused term “Assault Weapons,” please click here.) The NRA has just received notice that the committee will be accepting public testimony. Please attend and plan to testify at this important hearing.

This legislative interim committee, led by Assembly Judiciary Committee Chairman William Horne (D-34), will be holding its hearing at 9:00 a.m. on August 28 in Carson City. This commission hearing will be held in Room 3137 of the Legislative Building and video-conferenced to room 4412 of the Grant Sawyer State Office Building in Las Vegas.

The NRA has been informed by Assembly Judiciary Committee staff that "Assault Weapons" will be the third issue on their agenda. This commission has invited a representative of the NRA to speak, along with members of the law enforcement community and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence based in San Francisco. Each presenter will have no more than 15-20 minutes to speak, while those speaking during the public comment section will be limited to a few minutes each. Please see the legislature’s guidelines to public participation here Link Removed

The agenda has yet to be posted on the legislative website, so please continue to check here Meetings of the Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justi for updates. Additionally, a list of the commission members can be found by clicking here Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justi

It is very important that those who influence policy for gun owners in Nevada know that law-abiding gun owners are paying attention. Please attend the hearing and plan to speak. Please also contact Chairman William Horne to politely remind him that Nevada does not need another failed gun control experiment.

Chairman Horne may be reached via e-mail at [email protected], or by phone at (702) 457-6963.

The results of this committee hearing could well influence legislative bills in the 2103 legislative session.

It is important to communicate your thoughts to the committee.

Please send those emails. And please attend the hearing if you can!

This was just removed from the agenda over the obections of the chairman.

This was just removed from the agenda over the objections of the chairman.

This meeting was well attended by pro-gun rights people and this removal from the agenda should be considered a small victory. IMHO the chairman will be back with his clearly anti-gun agenda and until every chair is filled with gun rights supporters and this guy is voted out in November your Nevada gun rights will continue to be endangered.
