I was taught how to be scared of guns when I was young so I will wait until I have grandchildren and scare $hit$ off their parents and take them to the range early.

BTW, the NRA Convention 2012 is being held here in St. Louis from April 12 - 15.

We hardly ever go to the range without taking the whole family and usually a bunch of friends. It's like a major social event to meet up at the crack of dawn for breakfast and be on the range when they first open, so we can get all our benches together at one end.

I love taking mine, I just wish she wanted to go along more often. Still, sometimes is better than no times :)

My daughter is 7 years old and loves to come out to the range with me. She has already got her own 22 Bolt action Rifle that she is learning how to shoot. I have spent a lot of time showing her how guns work and how Dangerous they are when you pull the trigger. She knows that she is not to touch them unless I am there and empty. I learned how to shoot when I was about 8 years old and I respect them more then you can Imagine. I just hope our local range will allow her to shoot as they usually don't!

It should be called take your daughter to the range AGAIN day.

My 12 and 9 year old daughters do well with my 10/22. We aren't working on accuracy yet, just holding the gun correct and trying to use the sights. I need to find a smaller 22 for the 9 year old, she is very petite and the gun is heavy for her. My 12 year old does a good job with my 9mm, it only took her 4 or 5 shots to get over her nervousness.

Thank you for the input.

I've actually decided on the Thompson Top Shot. It is a really small break action 22, I've looked at others but haven't been happy with the looks or feel.

Great idea. Wish my daughters would come with us more often. We will be getting together again on Mother's Day, bright and early and then breakfast at the clubhouse after.

I can't take my daughter yet, she will be born in early september. If I could, I would take her right now. The best I can do is tell her to do push ups and flex her trigger finger while she is still in the oven.

Took my daughter out a couple weeks ago, her first time shooting something other than a BB gun - in this case my SKS. I supplied 'back-pressure' on the rifle so the kick wouldn't be too much for her (she's 7,) and she got to fire one shot. She seemed to like it, but it jammed when I fired the next round, requiring more work than I was willing to put in at the range, so that was her only non-BB shot for the day.

Great idea!! Have been taking my 20 year old since she was 16 or so. Bought her a 10-22 a couple Christmas ago. Brought her along on S&W, Sig, and a little Kel-Tec. Even built a small range and her and her brother and mom join us.She joined the TN National Guard her senior year High School. ROTC both High School and now College, just finished first year. On her second year with her Unit, MP and has been her squad SAW operator as well as 50 operator on her HUMVEE. Now when we go to range she often polishes my techniques and work on clearing and securing scenarios for the house. Niether of us reccomend
this, best course is secure family and position and let LE come to you. Love going to range and we do it every chance we get. My son often joins us and a real family affair, most of the nieghbor guys won't shoot with her anymore, bests me on rifle at times and gaining on handgun.
I will see if any local ranges are participating, 1 has moving targets and have not been there. Might be a blast!
I would encourage any one to teach their kids the shooting skills and enjoy the time spent together. Proud of both of mine! Not too worried about daughter, a small girl but tough and ready. She plans on her HCP as soon as 21, hates it when they are deployed for emergencies in state and assist local LEO's in providing security but can not carry at home.

Great Idea! Have been taking my 20 yr old daughter since she was 16 or so. She enjoys it greatly. She even joined the Tn National Guard her senior year and ROTC through High School and now College. She is now in her 2nd year in her unit, MP and loves the challenges. We built our own range a couple years ago, didn't like restrictions at most ranges and tired of just target practice. Now we enjoy multiple target/ distances, movement, draw and fire, and even use dummies in some drills. Son and Mom often join us and we can easily spend better than half the day as a real family affair.
My daughter now polishes the old man' techniques and work together on house clearing and home security issues. My training in these areas was 30 + years ago. Nice to polish up old skills. Don't get me wrong neither of us advocate the homeowner doing this, rather secure family, hunker down and defend position. Let LEO's clear and come to you, much safer. Any way now she teaches me a few things and it is great.
This a great way to teach life, safety, responsibility and the shooting skills. All the while enjoying great Father/Daughter, Father/Son times. Life is way too short and soon they will be gone from the nest, send them out into the world with the skills and mindset to work hard and suceede. I am proud of my kids. Will defintely take my daughter, 1 local range has moving targets now and have not tried it, sounds like it's our time.
