NRA or NAGR?

I have been an NRA (National Rifle Association) member for years.
Along comes NAGR (National Association for Gun Rights).
Any thoughts on either organization?
I know NRA is 4mil strong and NAGR is about 1mil. strong.
Do you belong to 1 or the other or both? And why?

Thanks,

An openly armed society is a safe and polite society.

Also don't forget GOA (Gun Owners of America) especially after the Piers show last week. Also, SAF (Second Amendment Foundation). I belong to them as well as the NRA. Not to familiar with NAGR although I receive emails from them all of the time asking for money.

Every gun owner should be a member of the NRA. Beyond that join as many as you desire. The NRA is the largest and as such it has the most effect. The larger it gets the more effective it will be. Politicians care about the size of the membership roles.

Please spend your hard earned money supportinbg the NRA, they are the group who have proven thay can influence politicians in ways that preserve our rights. I don't agree with everything they do, but overall they are the best bet to preserve our rights.

I'm currently a member of the NRA. I believe that even though they're not the only organization fighting for our rights they're probably the most effective. Join the NRA first and then join whoever else you wish.

That being said as powerful as the NRA is they need our help. Write your national AND state senators and congressmen / congresswoman. Encourage everyone you know to do the same. Many of these are facing elections in the next 2 to 4 years. Public opinion will move these men and women.

This is a great question. One I've been meaning to ask as well. Money is tight, so I want to choose wisely. I started with my hard earned $$ going to the NRA. After that I started considering others: SAF, USACC, NAGR, etc.

The NRA is the strongest gun group out there and all gun owners should belong to it. I know money is tight but if you can afford it you should belong to more than one group. I also belong to CCRKBA and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America.

I'm a NRA Life member. I believe it is our best chance for maintaining our rights. If an organization as large as the NRA can not lobby effectively for us, then no one can.

If you can only afford one, the NRA is the first choice, but I would strongly encourage you to scrape together enough to also join the SAF (Second Amendment Foundation), CCRKBA (Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms), SAF (Second Amendment Foundation), GOA (Gun Owners of America) and NAGR (National Association of Gun Rights) as well as the state level NRA affiliate such as TSRA (Texas State Rifle Association) in Texas.

All of these groups (and many others) do a tremendous amount of good in support of 2nd Amendment rights and all need numbers and money to do their work so the more you can support at least with annual membership, the better off we all are in our rights.

Many have negative feelings towards the NRA for not being perfect in many ways but when it comes down to it, the NRA and other groups do so much to support our rights that every gun owner should feel ashamed if they are not supporting at least one of these organizations. The fact that the NRA can only boast of 4 million members when there are at least 100 million gun owners in the USA is a sad indication of how little most do to support the rights they enjoy.

I don't think you have to be a member at this site to read this, but if you do, and you're really interested in knowing all you can about NAGR and its leadership, go ahead and sign up and read through this thread at AR15.com about NAGR's fund-raising umm....practices (I was tempted to use a more pejorative word there) before making up your mind whether or not sending them your money will do anything to help protect your gun rights. My conclusion? No, they won't ever get a dime from me.

I am also not a huge fan of the NRA, and I do not currently hold a membership with them. I have in the past, but don't now. That said, I won't bad-mouth them. I'd be glad to discuss my problems with them with anyone who sincerely is interested, but I have no interest in arguing with sycophants who can't discern between truth and lies, or marketing ploys and true plans for constitutional and 2nd Amendment restoration.

As far as the OP goes though, the question about NAGR seemed the more important discussion to be had. A year after that discussion at AR15.com, it came up here just a month or two ago again. The AR15.com thread is the more informative though, and the creator of NAGR, Dudley Brown, posted a few times in that debate, so you can judge his honesty and sincerity for yourselves by reading it.
