NRA Membership

So... I signed up to be an NRA member over a month ago. I sent in all of the appropriate information along with a check for the membership fee. The check was cashed over 3 weeks ago and I have not heard a single thing from them. Is this typical of the organization?

Ya I think it took around a month before I got anything. I got my free product first then a few weeks later I got my membership card in the mail

I'm a life member, I sent an email/called over a month ago, about getting a new card with my new address. Have not heard back from them about it at all. I too am frustrated. I would keep calling.

With more than 4.3 million members (and I'm willing to assume most are annual memberships) 6-8 weeks doesn't seem so slow. Even if half of all members are life members, that is still leaves an average of 100,000 memberships to process each month. I get any gift about 3 weeks after submission each year, and my new card and paperwork about 3 weeks later.

I became a Life Member last year and it took 8 weeks to get my card and membership package. It took another 5 weeks to get my jacket. I wouldn't worry about it, they're gaining members like crazy as shooting sports and gun ownership experience huge growth. They're probably way behind with all the business. (I figure that's a great problem to have)

I signed up 6 of my friends about a month ago and they still have not received their membership cards or magazines. I am giving them another month before I call them. I know they must be slammed.

The problem is all of the correspondence you will receive asking for MORE money, stuff they send you asking for donations, etc. they spent more on mailing me crap than I did on the membership and they wonder why they need money. That's why I didn't renew

I sent a check with the paperwork over 3 months ago. I emailed them asking when to expect my card. No Response!
They cashed my check 2 weeks after I mailed the paperwork in. I was wondering if they have a large amount of people signing up or something.

You're not alone, Loffmar77. It took several calls over three months to get a response on where my membership materials were. When they arrived though, they tossed in an NRA hat which was nice but it was made to fit a very small head so it was useless to me. I know they have a lot on their plates right now with what's going on in DC but maybe creating a division of the company dedicated to the new members and sustaining current members would be a good idea. They could call it, "Customer Service" or something wild and crazy like that.

They kept sending me renewal notices every month & I knew I had 9-10 months before it was due. I finally called & told them to stop sending notices until a couple of months before it was actually due. They waste so much money sending this type stuff out. I haven't won my 21 guns yet either. lol Heck i haven't even received the knife that was promised for my generous donation.

I will NEVER opt for a "LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP". How do you show your dissatisfaction? An email? A phone call? They've already got your $$$$$, why do they need to cater to your whims.

For this reason, I advise everyone to join, but ONE YEAR AT A TIME. If you're wishing to help "the cause", the one year membership helps for a lifetime. The "Lifetime" membership helps through less than a day of mailouts & marketing.

If you really want to "BE the NRA", you'll hold your $$$$ for the yearly membership.

Purchasing a Lifetime Membership to an organization you don't personally run is akin to naming an intersection for a Living politician, or counting your chickens before they've hatched.

Good point! The organizations value life members (immediate cash flow) and push life memberships. I have always thought of paying for a life membership as a greater contribution to the organization and, assuming that it is membership I would renew year-after-year, an economy for me. You do give up some leverage that way, however.

Let's put all our cocky ego's aside. If the NRA wasn't there we will be shooting spit balls as a defense weapon. Takes roughly 2 months.

I'm a EPL MEMBER. I CAN'T STAND IT WHEN PEOPLE TAKE ODDS WITH THE NRA. Minus well move to another country. Egos.

Dam it if it jams, Tap, Rack, Bang.

I renewed for 3 yrs and got my membership card within a month or so. But the 3 yr also included a free knife, which I haven't received. Emailed them since it has been 3 months and they replied in about 4 days. They said my knife was ordered for me, but on back order and would ship as soon as they had them.
I have mixed feelings about the NRA but don't have any really bad opinion of them. And even though I have questioned some of their actions, I believe they are an advocate for the 2nd amendment that Washington listens to.

EPL member also. They are betting they get all their money before you die. That is 10 years if you do the math on a regular EPL.

Father purchased mine when I was a baby. He's a benefactor member.
