Nothing to do with guns...traffic question

I'm just curious of something concerning traffic enforcement, whether it be city, county, or highway patrol. Our city police here in Anderson HAUL ASS around town. Sometimes you'll catch a highway patrol or sheriff doing the same. For example this past Sunday I was running late for church. I get on Main Street and there's a city cop that goes flying by me. I keep a very good distance between us but maintain the same speed he is (I actually think he was slowly leaving me) and we were doing 65 in a 35, no lights or sirens. He stopped for every single red light. So to me, he could not justify going to a call or anything of any importance. So can they justifiably pull you over for speeding when you're following them in those circumstances?

Yep, he can always say he was on the way to a call and decided you were a bigger risk to the public. Like Firefighterchen said, do as I say not as I do......

Some LEO's think they are above the law, and it I guess it they are because it is common most places that I have driven.

Would there not be a way to prove they weren't on their way to a call? Either way it ain't gonna stop me cause I just like to be an ass and prove a point. And to me if they turn around and pull me over they just proved that whatever "call" they were on their way to wasn't urgent enough for them to be speeding and being a risk to public safety.

A couple months ago we were sitting in a restaurant on 81 and all of the sudden we see a city cop going by the window spinning like a top. What had happened was he was trying to catch up to a chase that was already in progress and took a turn off another street too fast, lost control and started spinning down the street at about 60mph. To me I think they should get in big trouble over stuff like that.

Well...technically they do in terms of firearm carry laws. However I agree when it comes to most everything else.
Which part of the Constitution grants the police extra rights because they wear a government supplied costume? I haven't read it.

They can carry a firearm places we can't...such as schools and hospitals and gov't buildings.
It's not a right. Carrying in those places while wearing their taxpayer paid for costumes are privileges. They can't carry inside of a jail. And they can't carry on my property (or yours) without permission. Unless you can come up with that Constitutional citation to prove me wrong.
.
You do realize that cops are our employees and we decide what they can and cannot do, don't you?

Damn I didn't realize I stepped into an argument on somebody's bad day...

No they cannot either. They CANNOT carry in schools or other places if they are not on official business. I know principals that have run them out of the school because they were visiting their bratty kids. The problem is no one says anything about it.

Federal law enforcement can because they are considered to be on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (366 on leap year)

Not sure if you were drinking when you typed this but I witnessed some drunk beligerant guy try to inform a LEO about what his rights were and that the LEO worked for him etc. Saw the drunk guy get dumped, cuffed and stuffed. I laughed. I guess at that time the LEO worked for me since I was hoping for that conclusion when lawful orders were being questioned and laws broken. Its all relative I guess. Just because you pay taxes doesn't mean you can break laws. That's why these comments are ignorant. As far as the OP is concerned, LEOs cover vast areas and are overwhelmed with calls. Should they do 20-30mph over without lights and sirens? Prob not...too much liability. Doesnt empower me to believe they are above the law or whatever. The other side of the coin is the complaintant bitching about how long it took the LEO to respond to their ridiculous harassment or civil complaint when they are backlogged 6 or 7 complaints at a time. Cant win I guess.

Might want to check you local regulations, a police office, local or federal may not carry on private land without the permission of the owner unless investigating a crime. They would be guilty of Criminal Trespass in Texas.

That's right, you should never question a cop, you should always follow their "orders" like a good little slave. How does it feel to be a statist idiot? It looks like I'm not the one guilty of posting under the influence of alchol, drugs or just stupidity. You should be very proud of your ignorant comment. I certainly am...

Now that I got that of my chest, how does your response in any way relate to my comment that you quoted?

You could re-read my post for starters. And just because I don't agree with your opinions, I didn't suggest that you were an 'idiot'. So maybe if you want any intelligent dialogue, maybe cut out the personal attacks and I will just chalk it up to you enjoying posting ignorant and flaming comments.

I was referring to public/state/federally owned property such as schools, hospitals (if the state doesn't allow it like SC) and those kinda places. Of course a LEO can't walk on my property without my permission or a warrant no matter how high up he is.

Whether it is right or not, they can pull you over for breaking the law.

As far as them speeding around town, my wife and I have made the same observation since moving to Anderson County. Having had family in law enforcement (including SC highway patrol and Anderson Sheriff) I do know that they will sometimes respond to calls without lights or sirens when they feel that they need an element of surprise or for just about any other reason they can think of.

Without wanting to get into the pissing match going on here, the lesson to take out of it is that sometimes the "good guys" don't do the right thing and no matter what our personal opinions are; as law abiding gun owners it is our responsibility to do the right thing (and the legal thing) no matter what our personal interpretation of what the law should be.
