not sure how true this is

Felons also have a driver's license. Will this mean they are are allowed to carry too without permission? Just asking...

Permit free concealed carry will lead to prohibition faster than the current system. There are myriad arguments for free for all, none of which can be used for individual permits.

I think it is a bad idea.

Cannot speak for the other states, however, as far as I know, Iowa is no longer pursuing it at this time.

As far as it being a bad idea because of felons getting guns, too late, they already have them. If they do not, they can get one anyway. Law abiding citizens should not need a permit. I shouldn't be punished for things bad people do.

They carry w/out a permit now what would change?

Are you aware that in the (geographic) majority of this country no permit what ever is required to carry a firearm? The permit is to conceal it . Yet , I don't see constant news stories about law abiding gun owners haveing NDs or blowing their feet off at Starbucks.

I'm all for individuals who violate basic safety rules being punished but why should an entire class be preemptively made to pay for the crimes of the few?

concealed carry permits should be free. I feel people need some sort of training in operating a handgun, in wisconsin as long as you have a hunters safety course under your belt you can get a permit. Hunters safety in my neck of the woods doesn't cover any training in handguns at all.

criminals and felons will have guns no matter what. illegal or not, thats why they are criminals and felons. lol!

Several state now issue permits w/ no such requirement and it doesn't seem to have a detrimental effect on their general population. In many states I can open carry a firearm w/ no such trainig and again, no apparent detrimental effect.

Referring to the SD law (still on the governor's desk...grrr), the requirement to CC without permit is that one would otherwise be eligible for a permit - not a felon, not known to be a danger to self or others, not habitually intoxicated, yada yada. Thus, if one could not qualify for the permit, they cannot carry under this law either.

Considering we have no permit or regulation of OC, why should the law abiding citizen have to pay for the privilege of letting his or her shirt cover the gun?

I am so exhausted by this mentally deficient paradigm followed by gun control "advocates", politicians, and their lackeys. How much time and brain power is it gonna take for them to finally figure out that laws and permits will not deter criminals? By definition, criminals disregard societal norms or laws of any kind. Laws do not affect criminal behavior. Armed citizens who wish to be a functioning part of the society and wish for the society to function do. Armed citizens can and do avert criminal activity as it occurs. No other prevention or "protection" method available to modern man has proven to be as consistently effective.

Brady would have ended up with a bullet in his head regardless because there were already laws on the books and they made no difference! How can his organization argue for more restrictive laws when he is living proof they are completely ineffective? That is a true oxymoron!!

There should be a Constitutional amendment that requires everyone involved in mandating or legislating society, from the local mayor to the president, to sit down at the beginning of his or her shift and write 100 times "Nothing I say or do from this position can change criminal activity. An armed citizen will change criminal activity."

That would be nice, weird seeing RI in there though. Shall Issue by law, but not by practice. Going permitless only helps people that don't travel. I live in VA and if they did give the permitless option, I'd still keep the permit for reciprocity. I know people in VT that go thru hell because they have no permits either way so getting non-res sucks for them, they get them but a lot more work.
