Good Day my Southern CCW'ers.

I live In New York State.A friend of mine just moved to Statesville, NC from New York Along with his Girlfriend. She has her New York State Pistol Permit But, my firend John Does not.

My question is, can he carry her handgun in Statesville, he is under the Impression that he can. he was also Convicted of Felony DWI after 3 privious DWI arrests, all Misdameaners. I just dont want him to get Jambed up Because of his Stupidity
Thank You for reading and replying..

I don't know the laws in nc but if he already has a felony he can't even buy a gun much less carry it with her permit.

He is a convicted felon..... NO gun carry or ownership... PERIOD..... He can't even possess ammo....

Now us law abiding citizens can Open carry with no permit.... And conceal carry with a permit.... His girlfriend CAN NOT conceal carry in NC until she gets a NC permit.... NY is NOT a reciprocity state... They don't recognize our CHP so we don't recognize yours. She can open carry....

According to this pamphlet from the NC Sheriff's Association (http://www.ncsheriffs.org/images/Conceled%20Handgun%20Permits%20and%20The%20Use%20of%20Deadly%20Force.pdf), NC will honor a permit from another state if that state also honors theirs--meaning that there needs to be two-way reciprocity.

According to the USACarry.com reciprocity maps (Concealed Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps), NY and NC do not honor each others' permits.

All of that aside, I'm not sure why your friend would think that HE could carry his girlfriend's gun if SHE has the permit. That would be like being allowed to drive if your girlfriend has the driver license (and you do not have your own license) ....

I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure your friend is WRONG. Throw in his previous felony, and he would be wise to verify laws on EVERYTHING so he doesn't get "repeat offender" status.

Best of luck in getting to the bottom of this,
