Non-event today

OC'ing today with my 1911 A1 Springfield. Arrived at the local Starbucks for an afternoon JAVA jolt. 5 local LEO's outside having coffee, seated at a table outside, with one LEO going inside to order as he arrived just before us. Had my 45 r/s at 3:00 pos. Absolutely no way for any of them not to notice my sidearm. Went in ordered, passed by the table on the way out and left. No incident, no problem. Just the way it should be. Winston Salem LEO's just got a little more respect then I have already had for them.

Good thing the LEO were there to deter the criminals from attacking you and taking your gun, or from shooting you first while they robbed the Starbucks!

Funny how criminals are supposedly deterred by the presence of a badge and a uniform, but the visible gun and known ability to kill them is not believed (by some) to deter them.

I made the decision today to OC 100% now where allowed. I've decided that its legal and I'm tired of concealing it. If someone doesn't like it then that's just to damn bad. With all the OC heat on the local cops lately I doubt ill hear much from them. That and there's been stories in the papers recently about it so hopefully more people are a little more educated about it being legal. I bought a uncle mikes reversible so if I come across a place I need to tuck it away it has a reversible hook to make it an iwb holster.

The one argument I never understood was " I OC for the element of surprise". Wtf does that mean? You want someone to attack you? I believe the common assumption is drawing down on someone will most likely deter people from continuing an attack so hopefully any criminal looking for trouble will see the gun and walk away. I also use the retention strap. I would hate to be that guy in the news who gets his gun stolen from behind :/

I also had a non-event last night at Walmart. The wife and I went shopping and she pleaded with me to leave my gun in the truck. "Not gonna happen" I told her, but I did agree to wear my jacket. Right after we went into the store I took my jacket off, fully exposing my gun. We toodled around the store for over an hour before I asked her how many people she had seen that were freaked out at the sight of my gun. "Not a single person" she said. That put an end to her concerns about OC. She probably won't ever do it, but her mind was put at ease about my OC'n. She was utterly shocked when I told her I OC'd into my bank the other day without any issue.

I OC at my Wells Fargo branch all the time. (WA state) Banks (the funds) are Federally insured, not a federal building. They are a business like any other, and can make their own rules. IANAL.
