No More Saigas, Kalashnikovs etc

The Dicktater in charge says no more per exec order. If he is bombarded with emails or if congress is will there be a change?

Homobama’s latest offense against gun owners comes by way of Executive Order 13662. Purportedly related to Ukraine (yeah, right), this order prohibits business dealings with a long list of Russian individuals and businesses. Although this and all other executive orders are arguably illegal, there is no doubt that the strong arms of the executive branch (FBI, ATF, etc) will enforce it. This means it will very likely have real effects for gun owners.

Of greatest concern is the ban against doing business with Kalashnikov Concern (which includes Izhmash, maker of Saiga rifles and shotguns), the largest gun maker in Russia. Russian arms such as the AK-47 and AK-74 rifles and Saiga shotguns imported after July 16, 2014 will be in violation of Executive Order 13662.

This does not constitute a ban or limitation on the transfer of ownership of these guns within the United States of America. In other words: as long as Kalashnikov Concern is not involved in the transaction, no sweat.

More fuzzy is the status of guns currently possessed in the USA by distributors that may not already be fully paid for. From the Treasury Department’s FAQ:

375. If I have Kalashnikov products in my inventory, can I sell them?

If a U.S. person has an inventory of Kalashnikov Concern products in which Kalashnikov Concern has an interest (for example, the products are not fully paid for or are being sold on consignment), we advise that U.S. person to contact OFAC for further guidance on handling of the inventory. [7-16-2014]

While theoretically this attacks the Russian economy, these sanctions will likely do more to reduce the availability of affordable, reliable guns here in the USA and, one would suppose, cause Kalashnikov Concern to redouble efforts to peddle its wares to other folks–who may not look kindly upon Americans and our interests.

Actually, it looks like it is even more complex: All Russian firearms imports on hold | The Bang Switch. From the article:

I’ve confirmed with multiple sources that all Russian imports related to firearms are on hold. All form 6′s (import licenses) are suspended until further clarification can be obtained by ATF as to what is and isn’t affected by sanctions.

Given that the US market for Russian-made firearms and ammo is rather small in comparison to other parts of the world, this will not even make a dent in the manufacturers' books. It will, however, impact US customers, which is the indented target of these "sanctions."

And we're surprised by this Communist n Chief banning imports? Most of the Sheepeople of this country care not. Too busy to be concerned or care. 30% care enough to enable a party to support their ways. What's left???? 48-60% that care but of which 30% usually don't vote. Gee, this is a hard one to figure out. (Without one shot being fired)

Howdy,

What an idiot!

Here's a link to the EO:

It has to do with sanctions against anyone that's involved in civil war in Urkraine.

Banning the importation of AK-47s?

That was done by Big George Bush in 1989. It is known as the Assualt Weapons Ban of 1989 ( aka the Assualt Weapons Importation Ban of 1989 ).

Real AK-47s have not been imported into the USA since 1989. Sporterized version and sporting rifles that look similar to the AK, like the VEPR and Siaga, have been imported recently due to a "loophole" in the law.

Big George's Importation Ban also stopped the Uzi, ALL of the H&Ks ( 91,93,94, MP-5s, etc ), all the Norinco and Polytech AKs, FN, FNC, Fn-FAL, L1A1, FN-FALO, etc for a total of 55 ( IIRC ) named rifles and their variants or clones that were a semi-auto version of a select-fire military weapon from being imported into the USA.

Funny thing is that after Big George did this the NRA gave him an "A" rating.

I find it strange that so many so called "Gun People" have forgot ting about this happening.

Sad but true.

Why the diversion from the topic at hand? Does this new EO restrict the importation of Russian manufactured AKs or not? By the way, a semi-automatic AK is still an AK. Oh, I get it! You saw another opportunity to hate on your former lover, one of the Bush boys. Thanks for the history lesson, we know the elder Dubya was apart of the problem. I believe you have an illness, Sten. Much in the same way you bash on opspec, you hate on Dubya and his ilk at every turn with no meaningful additions to the current topic being discussed. You should seek professional help for your addiction, Paul. What's it like having the mental disorder know as, Liberalism?

Crazy old fart...

My take on this is: since Feinstein did not get her ridiculous Gun bill passed- the anti 2A peeps are silently attacking- by passing legislation that imposes small regulations/restrictions on things most people would not even notice. My concern regarding the issue here- is not that it won't make a "dent on etc"- but rather that they're regulating more and more inches- inches that most people are unaware of. IMO this is such a random things for them to impose a restriction on- unless its not random at all. (Otherwise please educate me on its significance). And meant to start the process by taking away what we do not notice.

Damn, I just bulk bought a bunch of Russian ammo too! Need to load up another rifle in Mosin Nagant calibre before they go scarce!
If push came to shove, I know where there are two crates of ammo. Might be time to get an SVT-40 to go with it.
