No Jail for unintentional shooting of brother

What do you think? Right result?

I'm guessing the "victim" didn't want to prosecute and the matter was being pushed by the DA.

Besides the issue of jail time, should he be allowed to possess a firearm during probation for work purposes? If it's safe enough for him to have a gun at work why isn't it safe enough for him to have a gun all other times? Or, from the other viewpoint, if it isn't safe for him to have a gun while shopping at Walmart why is it safe enough for him to have a gun for work purposes?

Or is safety not an issue and he is just being "punished" by not being allowed to carry a weapon for other than work purposes while still be allowed to keep his job? (I'm assuming he is employed as a security guard or leo or other profession that requires possession of a firearm.)

Judge Thomas Nave accepted a plea agreement that was reached with prosecutors and imposed 180 days of jail time with the full 180 days suspended, meaning there’s no time to serve, and one year of probation.
Bingham will also be required to attend a gun safety course and is not allowed to possess firearms except for work purposes during probation.
Brothers Seth and Joseph “Joe” Bingham, 27, were driving home from a day at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range in December of last year when Seth disassembled his pistol in the truck. A round went off and struck Joe in the femoral artery in his right leg, which had to be amputated above the knee as a result of the accident.

I think this guy shouldn't own guns. His negligence already cost a leg. It might cost somebody their life. A round doesn't just "go off". I dont know though maybe I am wrong, but I am unaware of any of my loaded guns shooting themselves. He must have one of those guns that shoots itself...

After your post it made me think of this video i've seen

He shouldn't have been disassembling his gun in a truck anyhow... And none of my guns just"go off". I think this guy was just lucky that it was a family member and that charges weren't pressed by anyone other then the DA. Only reason he got off in the manner he did, anyone else been shot and he would have lost his gun rights and /or did time.
