No ammo? Guess why? What I've suspected all along.

Our WalMart got 7.62X39mm tuesday. All gone Wednesday. Then Thursday they got a shelf load of 9mm, 40 cal and 45 cal. Gone by Friday. But I got mine!
I hate you. Not really oh!! what is your address? I want to come and see the Ammo. you got....yeah see it...real close...Get my hands on his 9mm.

Jeeeez! This has been posted over and over. There is an ammo shortage because individules, not the government are buying it ALL. EVERY retailer has sold incredible amounts of ammo over the last three months, the demand is what is out of wack, not the supply. My store has sold more ammo in the last 3 months than in the previous two years combined. We continue to recieve shipments, but ammo continues to sell faster than we can replenish. Also the info about foreign sources not being availble is just dumb. PMC, Elly, Agulia, Russian .223 and 7.62x39 and other foreign stuff have all been readily availble. Easier to get than US made ammo in most cases.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That's one of the items that make this such a wonderful country. :)

I don't see us coming out of this in 6 or 8 months like has been suggested though I hope I am wrong. There are shooters who have years worth of ammo and would like to have more, shooters with a few months worth who would like to have a lot more, guys who just don't ever keep much and want their share, and all of the new shooters coming along who want a few thousand to many thousands of rounds of anything and everything they shoot.

If the influence and pressure we have been applying to our legislators continues to pay off then I would expect demand to get more back to normal, but not before everyone has satisfied their current wants/needs for ammo. If more strict laws are enacted and/or taxes on ammo per round are passed then the demand will remain high until the taxes and restrictions make it too expensive to buy. If nothing else, the burden of taxes may help drive the cost of ammo down again.

easier said than done. when you are at capacity, the costs and logistics of creating more capacity are not always a simple matter to raise.
you can use all sorts of calculations to try and get the most out of what you have but you cannot create labor, machinery, real estate and components out of thin air.

Not claiming such. you create them from the profits of peak capacity. been there and done it. and such is the nature of success. no, it is not easy. But it is necessary if a company is to survive. those who would suggest it's not doable are destined to fail. I, for one, don't like failure.

I recently scored 6 boxes of 50 round .45acp 230 gr. FMJ target rounds, after months.

I don't know whether to shoot it, or kiss it!

Well something has sure stopped the flow of many types of Ammo. in my little crime infested cow town. I quickly noticed Russian Brown & silver Bear 7.62x39 5.45.39 Ammo. just can't be found. I don't think the Russians have stopped making it, and I sure don't think they took the USA of their sell list. So why can't I find any?
You can't find any because it's all in someone's basement. Don't take my word for it, just look on armslist for the country & look at all the ads for a thousand of this or a thousand of that. Add all of the gun forums that have a marketplace too. That's where all the ammo is.
There are people out there that have made this into a job. Good for them, but bad for us.

(Infowars) - The failure on behalf of the federal government to provide any explanation for why the Department of Homeland Security is arming to the teeth with high powered weapons and billions of hollow point bullets, as well as crude efforts by mainstream media mouthpieces to debunk the war-like preparations, have backfired massively, propelling the story to a viral status.

As we reported today, 15 Congressmen have written a letter to the DHS demanding to know why the federal agency is buying so many rounds of ammunition and whether the purchases are part of a deliberate attempt to restrict supply to the American people.

Big Sis has remained silent on the issue, refusing to answer questions from reporters and even from multiple elected representatives, about the ammo buys.

The continued huge orders for weapons and bullets have prompted attendances at gun shows to explode, as gun store owners say they are having to contend with significant national shortages.

Efforts to portray the very real stockpiling by the federal agency as a conspiracy theory have fallen flat on their face, and have only served to further highlight how suspect the DHS’ actions are.

Just got this from a link on another thread. Thought it makes sense in this thread.

With all that is going on in DC with the IRS I have to ask, "What if obummer, the IRS and DHS went to the ammo manufactures and made then an offer they could Not refuse?" If this was 2007 I would not considered this but it is 2013 and we have a Chicago thug in the WH.

The IRS scandal seems to keep growing each day. But so far it is only about their actions with the TEA Party and others. But this could only be the tip of the iceberg. I know people at Federal Cartridge and they say that Federal is running all out to produce ammo and I assume that the other ammo makers are doing the same. My contacts would not know if the IRS have threatened them or not. Perhaps this should be checked out. I would call my Congresswoman but she is a lib-o-rat puppet whose strings are being pulled by Pelosi.

So I would ask if anyone here has a Pro-Gun Right House Rep, perhaps you could give them a call. It would be even better if they were on the committee that is looking into the IRS actions. I would hope that this would not be true but obummer and his minions have shown they will do ANYTHING to get their way. Remember obummer is a Chicago thug and Chicago learned how to do business from Al Capone!!!

People are running scared, afraid of this and that, buying anything that hits the store shelves convinced they will not be able to find any ever agsin. Unfortunately this hoarding mentality has created headaches for suppliers, retailers and consumers. At the local Sportsman Warehouse, people start lining up stockday morning before the store opens. Door opens, mad rush to the gun dept., 10 minutes later shelves are empty. It's insane. Nobody wins like this. Just my thoughts.

You are right. Back in the early to mid '90's there was a run on ammo. I was rebuilding and installing machines for Federal Cartridge then. We installed two new 9mm lines for them. 9mm was the hottest ammo at that time. People were hoarding ammo and FC was running all out to meet the demand. Later FC fell on hard times because people were not buying ammo because they had all they could need or use for a while. This time FC is not installing new lines. They are only running all out to meet the demand.
But it occurred to me that obummer and his minions have shown they will do whatever it takes to force their agenda on people. I and others suspect that Big Sis is buying ammo in mass to prevent it from being bought by us "pee-ons" who can not be trusted. So what and who would prevent them from having the IRS strong arm the ammo makers? It would be a TOTAL waste of time to call my lib-o-rat puppet. So I am asking for anyone, who has a pro-gun rights House Rep, to call them and ask for this possibility to be checked out.
We must think outside the box if we hope to defend our 2A Rights. If I thought of it then you can bet the farm that some lib-o-rat has too. While I would not stoop so low the libs will and have.

I figured I'd lob a hand grenade into the fray. The gub'ment screws up pretty much anything it can get it's hands on, but why is there no 22LR on the shelves? There isn't a procurement official in the government that can justify buying 22LR unless it's for a competitive shooting squad. This in itself should show how it's the public creating the problem. One thing I've noticed is that my LGS has no 9mm or .40 on the shelves, but they have it available at the range. They ensure their larger profit margin is taken care of before they sell off the shelves.

You are quite correct. It takes all of the above and all can be had for (drum roll) MONEY. Do you think the ammo makers are too short of cash to do the necessary expansion? Demand has been ridiculously high for some time now (prices too). I'm not sure what but there is a stink coming from somewhere. I don't buy into conspiracy theories but I also am not big on coincidences. Obama hates private citizens having guns and now we have an ammo and gun shortage. I think the answer is the law of unintended consequences. Obama tries to reduce gun ownership and it increases (making a self fulfilling prophesy). Kind of like Obamacare was intended to increase the number of Americans insured. Instead employers who can't afford the mandated benefits lay off employees with benefits and replace them with more part time employees. The guy just can't get it right. More should have voted for my cuz Mitt.

Like Vern explained, even as recently as the 2008 run on ammo when Obama was first elected, ammo makers tried to expand production lines to meet the demand and then got bitten in the ass when demand subsided. This time they're playing it smart on their end and just running their current lines to capacity. Doesn't come close to meeting demand, so we suffer on our end for a while but in the end after the demand has subsided, I'd like their to still be a Federal, CCI, and Winchester around to keep making the stuff.
