a friend was out at Nellis AFB today checking out ammo. 22lr=$3.50 box of 50; sold out, no telling when next delivery is coming in. 9mm=$12.90 box of 50; sold out, no telling when next delivery is coming in. haven't checked Freedom Munitions in quite some time but had good luck about 6 months ago

I can assure you that when the store restocks those price will be a bit higher

I ordered some Eley .22 match ammo on line Feb 2 at an outrageous price. It got here today. Just order online and be patient. I am also going to the Tampa gun show Sat AM and hope to find some .223.

got the memo

actually, I got the memo in 2008, and have what seems like an adequate amount for myself. however, as i mentioned to a friend who can't find any, you can never have too much. thought i'd check at our local military base but they don't seem to have any better luck. i guess it's all going to DHS and FEMA in their efforts to control people like you and me

I just picked up a 525 round box of remmington hollopoint .22 for $50 today after answering an add on Armslist. Yes, this is above retail price from a few months ago. Yes, there are people on Armslist who are taking advantage of the ammo shortage but you still can find some at a reasonable prices considering current situations. Anyways, check it out to see what you can find.

however, as i mentioned to a friend who can't find any, you can never have too much.

This is very ironic. You and your friend say that you cant find any ammo, and you express your desire to have more and more ammo. Did it ever cross your mind that hoarders like yourself are the reason why ammo is so hard to find? It's all sitting in the closets of people who think they can never have too much.

That's not even close to "hoarding." It's good planning.

time for the basic economics lesson. more people chasing a limited supply of goods causes prices to go higher.
to repeat, right now the supplies of ammunition are tight and there are millions of new gun owners seeking to buy ammo, coupled with the nonsense from DC is causing many people to want to have even more ammo in their hoard, and we haven't even mentioned the BILLIONS of rounds the government is buying! all these buyers chasing a limited supply forces prices higher.

another issue is the limited amount of raw supplies, which have seen increases in price as well.

the bottom line is the days of cheap and plentiful supplies of ammo may be behind us.

without trying to sound preachy, you were warned! there are many threads warning of impending price increases that were to come, well friends those increases are here and those who prepared are not whining as loud as the ones who ignored the warnings

Maybe the dictionary is just wrong... Hoarding: "to accumulate for preservation, future use, etc., in a hidden or carefully guarded place"

It's clear that you were using "hoarding" not in its denotative sense (dictionary definition) but in the snarky, accusatory connotative sense of "stocking up selfishly in excess of any rational need in callous disregard of the needs of others for those limited supply items." Of course--as an aside--for the same reason you can't let the govt determine your need for guns, magazines, and types of ammo, you have no standing to determine whether the "hoarder's" need for that ammo is rational.

My Walmart has 2 boxes of Winchester 40s&w 100rnd for $35, if they are still there when I get off work.....I'm buying them

gee, i don't think of myself as a hoarder, i think of myself as having the foresight to stockpile enough of the necessary calibers to be able to practice enough to be able to hit at what i am, and still have a sufficiency if and when the need arises. which is why i spend as much time as i can at Frontsight in Nevada. but thanks for your thoughts. and, thanks to a couple of other recommendations on this thread, i was able to find some online, so thanks to y'all for the help

That isn't a bad price. I bought a case of Federal Premium Champion .40S&W before the craziness for $32/100.

No, I said I want these here two boxes and my ole' lady wants them there two boxes. Look lady, I know the law and the law says you gotta sell us all them bullets.

Sorry but I as owner or employee don't have to sell you anything.

You can interpret my use of the word "hoarder" however you like, I dont care. You have no more "standing" than anybody else has is determining what is a "rational" need for ammo.
