Night Sights?

I have been thinking about getting night sights. I have looked online and read a lot of so called ratings for different night sights. I must say that I am even more confused after that! I have seen many discussions on lasers on this site and really do not want to go that way. But I wanted to ask here on what is you consider the best night sights for the lowest light and will last the longest.

Meprolight by Kimber. I have an older laser sight for my Glocks but it is bulky the tritium sights are always on and last ten plus years. I had a S&W 1911 with tritium that I liked but I sold it.

I put trijicon on my glock 23 in 2001 and they still work great. Keep their "charge" for 2-3days in the vault. Only help in low light, but still draw a focus point. Also have fiber optics on the front of my glock27 and love those for all conditions. Sure help with these aging eyes

I like my TFO's (tritium and fiber optic) that I put on mine. They're great for low/no light and for bright light.

I would get the green for the front sight and yellow in the rear. The front sight will pop at you since green is brighter than the yellow.

First, a laser and tritium night sights are completely different tools, and each has it's place. Secondly, I'd like to note that many people find night sights to be useless, as if it's so dark that you can't get a good sight picture, then you can't see your target clearly to identify it, either, and if you use a light, then you won't need the night sights.
That said, what makes the sights glow is the tritium, which has a half-life of about 12-15 years, so it doesn't really matter who makes them. What makes them slightly better than others is the quality of the sapphire used as the lens for the tritium tubes, but all of that aside, the best ones you can buy are pretty much Trijicon. They're always been one of the best, and little has changed over the years.

Thanks for the feed back. I know laser sights and tritium are different and are used differently. My biggest problem with lasers are being dependent on a battery. My reason for night sights are because the old eyes are not what they used to be and want to be able to see my sights in low light. I keep a flashlight along with my gun on the nightstand but have been concerned that I my not be able to see my sights. Have tried it a few times and have not liked what I have seen or should I say did not see.
So this is why I have decided to go to night sights. I wanted feed back from others here on this forum as to what is considered the best.

A number of years ago I had TruGlo TFO's on my H&K USP and loved being able to see them so well. I was able to pick up the front sight very fast but the front sight fiber optic "pipe" flew out of the sight at the start of the Wyoming IDPA match. I searched the net and found that mine was not an isolated incident. Do a bit of research and contact TruGlo to see if they resolved this problem. If satisfied go for it.

GREAT FOR FADING EYESIGHT...
.
TruGlo TFO. Provides tritium night sights inside fiber-optic daytime sights. Very bright in all conditions. The white dots on other night sights can be hard to see in bright daylight, sun, snow, etc.

If that's the case, here's my suggestion:

XS Big Dot 24/7 tritium sights. They are large, quick target acquisition sights ideal for low light and poor eye sight.
As for lasers, they aren't really for low light so much, to me at least, as being able to aim the weapon when you don't have full extension, or aren't able to be ":behind the sights" for a good sight picture, such as firing behind a barricade. It's just another tool in the bag. typically I don't use the laser on my Nano, but I have it in case I need it.

My sights are on my G22 duty gun. I have been through numerous training exercises and qualifications and have yet to have this sort of trouble, nor have heard about it. They are only a year and half old at this point.

I will look into this, but if there were a problem before, I would have to assume it is a thing of the past now.

I have the TFO's on my G19. I'm also experiencing the issue where the front fiber optic rod is loosening from the sight. It hasn't fallen out yet. When it goes i will either go with the Trijicon or the Heinie night sights. The latter is not a traditional 3 dot system it has only 2. The front dot is on the post and the rear dot is below the notch on the standard sight. So in a quick acquisition situation all that is needed is to line up the dots like a figure 8.

Currently I have Trijicon, Merropolite, Sig Lite, and the TFO night sights on my guns. The TFO's were the only one's I put on aftermarket. The benefits of the Night Sights are too good to not have them on a pistol.

I have both night sights & lasers on several handguns. I have owned 9 different lasers over the years from 2 of the leading manufacturers. Only one laser "ate" batteries. I have 2 lasers now that are 4 & 5 years old ( 1 is on my normal carry gun ) both with the original battery. One major manufacturer actually provides 'free batteries for life' & free shipping if you buy the laser from their website.

I ( & many trainers I have worked with ) consider a laser essential on a carry gun. It enables you to be 'on target' in positions which prevent using the sights. Also in a high stress self defense situation, your eyes will probably be 'locked on' the threat.
