Newbie on carry in New Jersey

Is there any hope to carry in New Jersey. Personally I'm retired but now a store owner that carries the cash to the bank. Is carrying a lost possibility in New Jersey? Thanks Ron

My understanding in New Jersey is that you need a very good reason. Carrying large amounts of money maybe one of them don't know for sure. It wasn't until 1997 that retired police could carry and the bill states certain local and federal officers to carry. If anyone has a need it's retired police or law enforcement. It's only been about 13 years that they were able to carry. According to the law they have to give a list of all handguns known to be registered to that officer. WHo wants to do that? Don't know good luck with your application.

in NJ; you have to prove a "justifiable need"..like a documented eminent threat on your life..
carrying large amounts of cash is not
consididered justifiable.......only the politically connected and cops carry....

darticus, we welcome new businesses and it is easy to get your ccw in CO. It is a very gun friendly state that few people need a ccw, but like many people, I have one just because I can.:yu: You can also open carry in most places (except Denver I think).

Come on out and see how nice the west would be to live in. I won't say never, but I don't think I could ever live in the east.:fie:

Fondis :pleasantry:

I would love to visit Colorado and a good part of the west. There are a lot of nice places here in the east to live New Jerkistan definitely isn't one of them. The Pennsylvania Mountains for one are beautiful and is the place I hope to retire to. My plan is to get out of New Jersey ASAP. The job is still holding me here and yes I could move across the river into Bucks County PA but, don’t want to move twice. I may have no choice as our real estate taxes keep escalating out of control.

Depending on how much cash you transport, you may be able to get a carry permit based on justifiable need.

However, I believe the threshold is $3000 (though I could be wrong). Even if you do get the permit, it will be with restrictions placed on it. It won't be for carrying all the time--only when delivering cash.

Sounds like New Jersey took Maryland's lead or the other way around.

NJ is a hotbed for the liberal minded. Most people in NJ, didn't go on hunting trips with Dad at an early age..
Firearms are just not in people's homes there.
Only the police, the connected, the street criminals, and the Soprano Family are allowed to carry.

Perhaps hire the armored car guys, or drive different routes at different times to the bank, or differnt branches will make you feel at ease. Remember to watch your six. Never establish a routine when handling cash outside.

You can always follow the links provided, and get involved with the group trying to change the laws.

Stay safe.
