Got Beretta's?
If you have never written a letter to Albany before, you must do this this weekend.
Invest 15 minutes of you time or risk loosing it all.
Use you skills and knowledge to pass this along to others.

Upcoming Session in Albany could be devastating for law abiding gun owners.

We are pleading with you to take a few minutes out of your day and write the letter below to your New York State Senator.

You need to not just write this letter to your New York Senator, but get others to do so also. This could be now or never unless you act now!

Dear Senator

As a law abiding gun owner of New York, I have become very concerned with the impending gun legislation by Governor Cuomo and the Assembly.
As discussed, as a provision of the 1994 "Assault Weapons Ban", NY residents can only buy 10 round magazines for rifles and pistols. Presently, there are no manufacturers of 7 round magazines for rifles or pistols. This would render AR style rifles and semi automatic pistols useless, as no magazines could be used with these guns. I would highly doubt that a manufacturer would make special magazines for NY residents. This would be a de-facto gun ban, much as micro stamping legislation would curtail sale of new semi-automatic pistols in NY State.
Pre-ban magazines holding standard capacity (30 rounds) of bullets, manufactured before 1994 are presently "grand fathered" and legal to own in NY. Millions of gun owners in NY State own these grand fathered magazines. Because we are a niche market living in one of the "assault weapon" ban states, we all had to pay premiums to obtain these legal pre-ban magazines (sometimes as much as $30 to $40 per magazine). Millions of NY residents have hundreds if not thousands of dollars invested in pre-ban magazines, which were legally obtained according to the laws of the state.
If the Governor and Assembly ban all military look-alike rifles, such as AR15, and eliminate grandfather clauses, this would instantly make millions of law abiding NY residents criminals. The AR15 is by far and away, the most popular firearm in the United States today. These guns are used in shooting competitions and target shooting all over the state. AR15s are also used for hunting; they are also prized by collectors. There are dozens of millions of these rifles in NY State today in the possession of law abiding citizens.
I am asking that you oppose any registration of these firearms as well. There have been cases through history (in the US and abroad), where registration was a precursor to confiscation. I would feel uncomfortable if the government was keeping records of what is possessed by law abiding citizens.
The State can pass hundreds of more laws and they will not be able to prevent a sick, psychotic individual from creating atrocities. The killer in CT broke the first and most basic law and moral standard....murder. Hundreds of new laws would not have prevented that tragedy. Mass murders always occur in "gun free" zones. And of course, the reason for that is obvious.
We do not have a gun problem in NY State or the United States. We have moral decay occurring in this country, and I personally attribute that to liberal policies.
Thank you very much for your time on this important topic. Please use common sense and prevent the knee jerk reactions that can make your constituents a criminal with the stroke of a pen.

Sincerly,

Various manufactureres do make 5 round magazines for the AR platform for hunting purposes. New York politicians are already saying 'there will be 'no grandfathering' of the new proposed restrictions being talked about -- 'if you own one of these weapons - you will have to surrender it.' -- Never mind that there is really no definition of an 'assault weapon' except as how the politicians want to describe one, to serve their own purposes.

Start writing your legislators guys, on both the state & national level, - this ain't gonna be pretty !

.

I'll continue writing my letters as I have been for many years, but IMHO all of us honest, law abiding, tax paying NYS citizens are just about toast with respect to our firearms in this state. We, who have never harmed anyone, some of us having served our country in the military, hunters, sportsmen, whatever, are about to be punished...... for what ??? What did we do wrong ? Oh, I forgot, enough of us didn't mark off the correct choice 7 weeks ago. What really pi$$es me off is the fact that for years I've been preaching the political aspect of our gun rights in this state. To the point of where some of my acquaintances were starting to snicker about my comments with regard to their voting choices. I have acquaintances who won't vote anything but Dem because they are in a union. Doesn't matter that they also enjoy firearms (some even have pistol permits). Some others just gave up on voting, said it doesn't matter who you vote for (politicians are all the same ?!?!). Now we are all about to pay the price in an orgy of spasmodic knee jerk reactions. I would say it is not thought out, but it is thought out, has been for many years. Just waiting in the wings for the next horrific crisis. Oh yeah, and the right number of Dems to make sure it passes into law. What a shame ......

.

I've been writing letters to my representatives for years, and I am still waiting to see anything positive happen. I will continue writing, and maybe I will suggest that the legislature simply make New York city and it's surrounding area a "gun free zone," leaving the rest of the state alone.

Thank you for the post! Further research yielded this 1991 NY Times article of the NYC Assault Weapons Bans when it went into effect, gun owners had 90 days to "get rid of it" or face prosecution and $5,000 fine.
They don't want to have our rifles grandfathered in. They want a TOTAL BAN!

FYI, following is a copy of my letter to our state senator. I tweaked to the text proposed by SCOPE.

Dear Senator

As a law abiding gun owner of New York, I am very concerned with impending gun legislation proposed by Governor Cuomo and the Assembly.

Under provisions of the 1994 "Assault Weapons Ban", NY residents can only buy 10 round magazines for firearms. With NO manufacturers of 7 round magazines, a proposed restriction would be a de-facto gun ban, much as micro stamping legislation would curtail sale of new semi-automatic pistols in NY State. Sadly, I firmly believe that the Governor is pressing for NY to be the first state to enact stricter gun control to enhance his personal agenda to run for president in 2016. If the Governor and Assembly ban all military look-alike rifles, eliminate grandfather clauses and or further restrict magazine size, millions of law abiding NY residents would instantly become criminals.

In today’s morally corrupt society children are at risk every day from many potential dangers. All of the following result in the death of far more children than from firearms:
• DRUNK DRIVERS - Far more children die every year from car accidents caused by drunk drivers, why not bring back prohibition to prevent such senseless deaths caused by alcohol?
• CONTACT SPORTS – Many children are seriously injured and die playing contact sports, shall we outlaw all contact sports?
• PLAYGROUND ACCIDENTS – How many children are also seriously injured and die from playground accidents, shall we close all play grounds?
• HOME ACCIDENTS – shall we arrest parents when children are accidently killed or injured at home?
• MEDICAL ERRORS - Tens of thousands of men, women and children die every year from mistakes and infections in hospitals and medications errors. Where is the hue and cry, to eliminate these truly preventable tragedies? Shall we close hospitals?

Excessive restrictions on guns will result only in providing a temporary false sense of security! The murders in CT were senseless and horrendous. There are many ways in which children in schools are at serious risk. Without real efforts to increase school security, gun restrictions will provide only a temporary false sense of security. Deranged individuals and terrorists, domestic/foreign, have many ways to inflict carnage on our schools. Increased school security is the best way to increase their safety!! Schools are NOT prepared to defend against car bombs, other bombs placed in or around schools, pipe bombs brought to school by children, knife attacks, chemical or biological attacks? As with guns, we cannot protect schools by making everything illegal. Shall we prevent the sale and use of anything that might be used to make bombs etc. to attack our schools including gasoline, pipes, fertilizer, nails, knives…..… I understand that we need to start somewhere, that somewhere should be increased school security, not outlaw everything that could be used to harm children, THE LIST IS ENDLESS! Again, I believe the primary defense of our schools should include increased security in and around schools.

Finally, as seen with the current panic buying of assault type rifles etc., drastic knee jerk gun restrictions will likely lead to a dramatic increase in fringe militia groups that stock pile weapons over fears of further restrictions leading to the wholesale confiscation of personal firearms.

Thank you very much for your time on this important topic. We pray for an end to such violence, and we pray that our government officials will use common sense and prevent the knee jerk reactions that can make your constituents criminals with the stroke of a pen.
