Well I went to the gun store to bring home My new 1911 and walked out with a extra gun. Picked the wife up a new Ruger LCR 38SP. The price was just way to good to pass up ($275) brand new.

The wife has named them Thelma and Louise. I have night sights coming for the 1911 they should be here by the end of the week. When my gunsmith installs the new night sights I'll be giving the other ones away. They are Novak style black on black sights, let me know if you want them.

I wanna say she named them Thelma and Louise because of this scene in the movie. You see the 1911 and snub nose revolver.

Nice new toys! If you get tired of them, you can always send them to me, I will be sure that they never feel unwanted.....

PS: Are you sure you didnt use that 45 to make them give you the LCR for that cheap?

LOL, I'm sure. I went in there thinking about getting my wife the LCP but it was close to $400(I think like 380 or something.) So as I waited for the background check to clear I looked around. Saw a revolver in the case that said $275, so I asked to look at it. After it came out of the case I saw that it was a Ruger LCR. I looked it over and then handed it back, walked around some more. Paid for my gun and then I decided to pop on the LCR. If all goes well(Weather) I should be shooting it this weekend. Ordering a holster for it in a few weeks so she can carry it on her and not in the gun purse.

Hey, I was just curious if that is legal to purchase a handgun
Under your name and have your wife carry it? I have heard both that it
Is legal and is illegal. Please clarify.. BTW very nice purchases. I just got a new lcp 380 for $290.

It is in my state. You don't have to register your firearms in NH. Nor do we have to apply and be approved for a permit before we purchase a firearm(NYS.) We also don't have the ******** FID card crap(MA) in my state. The only trace that I even purchased a firearm is the record of sale at the FFL. Last time I checked state laws, they have to destroy that information within 24-48 hours.

If she was ever stopped and they ran for the SN of the firearm, it would come back as an unregistered firearm. I'm sure the ATF has the numbers and knows who owns it. Not really sure how the Feds work.

Very nice! Are these the 1911 grips you wanted to refinish?

Gotta love a wife that not only supports your habit but partakes in it as well!

Mine knows what she got into when she married me (2nd wife, we got married last year) but as of yet I haven't got her hooked on the shooting bug. She has expressed interest but still has a fear of guns to work through even though I have a perfect .22 revolver for her to start out with. My only fear is that she loves it so much that I might end up losing some of my favorites to her :cray:

Do you know how I can find out for minnesota.? I have always wondered that. Because we do have to apply for permit to carry and that doubles as permit to purchase.

Yes those are the grips I want to refinish. I picked up all the stuff I should need to do the job yesterday at HD. Picked up a paint/stain stripper,000 steel wool, gloves, polyurethane etc... They only had the linseed oil in gallon jugs so I didn't buy it. I did pick up some Howard butcher block& cutting board oil, for a wood cutting board I'm making I may try that.

The stain I want to apply to the grips is darker then the stuff on the grips now, so I may just strip off the polyurethane on them now and then apply my stain over the other one.

My wife is likes firearms, but her mom and sister are huge anti's! They have the mindset of "why do you need a gun?" "Only police need guns!" "That's not a hunting gun(when talking about my hand guns) why do you need it?" etc... Some how she came out of the anti camp with her mind still intact.

Have you ever used Mec-Gar mags? I ordered two 7 rounders last night for my 1911. I saw a few videos on youtube of people using them with their Kimbers. One guy was Texgerebner or something? I hope they fit in the Galco Cop mag/flashlight paddle holster I ordered last night. If you know of anyone who wants those sites let me know.

I have never used Mec-Gar mags though some of the guys I know have them and never complained. Let me know what you think of them. Even though I am partial to Wilson mags I am always open to trying something new.

I looked at Wilson mags and I have no doubt they are outstanding mags. But the price kinda scared me away(for right now) 32 per mag is high to me. I had a whole list of other items I needed to order.,Ok you got me, I wanted them I did not need them LOL. I ordered a Galco Cop Mag Flashlight Paddle, SureFire G2X and more. I'll post photo's of it all when it gets here.

Need ... want ... it's all the same:biggrin:

I have to get Mitch Rosen (he is in Manch) to make me a holster for my Colt Anaconda. I should have done it while I still lived in NH, now I have to send him my gun if he doesn't get one himself UGH! Thankfully my buddy owns Manchester Firing Line so I can send it to him and have him drop it off for me. I had Mitch make me a mag pouch for my Kahr 40, talk about excellent workmanship! I will probably end up having him make me one for the SA Operator too but I am just can't part with that one long enough to get it done ... it's my baby LOL

Here are the grips, they are halfway done. Not sure if you can tell by the photo.

Did you poly them or are they still wet?

Yeah the first coat of polyurethane was still drying. I was hitting it with the 000 steel wool(steel wool does not work well on the checkering.) I just applied the second coat of polyurethane, not sure if I'll hit it with some finishing wax or not. I hate the way polyurethane and stain feel together. Stain was dry enough, but was still a little damp when I applied the polyurethane(can say's that's fine.)
