New to site and cc

Hello all. I am new to the forum and have mainly been lurking reading other threads for awhile. I am also new to cc (just took the class a couple weekends ago) and am currently waiting on my certificate to come in the mail. I have a Taurus model 85 ultralite that I plan to carry, and a hoping some of you could give me insight on a good iwb holster to use and a good gun belt. I don't know what brands are good or if one option might be better or more comfortable for my revolver. Thank you in advance!

Welcome from Iowa! I've found the Blackhawk black instructor's gun belt to work very well. Galco makes high quality holsters.

Welcome from Iowa, enjoy your 85, I know I do. All I have for this gun is a Fobus paddle holster, so can't give you any advise for a IWB holster, there are alot of good ones out there.

Welcome to this forum from Missouri. I may have a cc but it is very uncomfortable for me to carry my gun IWB so I just cover it up with a vest.

Hello

Welcome from New Mexico. Haven't gotten My permit yet, but can't wait to take the class here to get it.

Welcome aboard from Oklahoma. Just about everybody who wears a gun has a box/drawer/etc.. full of holsters that didn't work for them. There are many skilled holster makers out there, so try as many holsters as you can before you buy, buy a belt that is stiff enough to support the weight of the gun/ holster and spare magazines, if you decide to carry them. I like the kydex lined gun belt made by Looper Leather in OKC. The Crossbreed holsters are well spoken for, and they are supporters of this forum.

I couldn't comfortably carry my first handgun, a revolver. I switched to a single stack semi auto, now it's not a problem. Btw, welcome

Thank you all for the kind welcomes. Fudo I think I am going to try one of the Crossbreed holsters you spoke of, I looked them up and they seem to make some quality holsters and back their brand very well, that's always a plus. And yes Stepside, I wish I still had my Sig P238, I'm still kicking myself in the butt over letting that one go :/

First, welcome, glad to have you aboard.

I've used a Crossbreed for several years now. There are makers out there offering the same basic design. Can't speak to their price, quality or warranty, but I can say I've never regretted buying from Crossbreed for a second.

Assuming you're considering an IWB rig because you want the highest level of concealability, I highly recommend ordering the Velcro clips with a Crossbreed Super-Tuck, and ordering a Beltman gun-belt with the loop-side of the Velcro sewn right into the belt. Crossbreed's V-Clips are just barely visible. If I've ever been "made" wearing my rig this way, it was likely by another gun-nut who just knew what to look for. I've worn this rig with shorts and a thin tank-top tucked in and been comfy all day, and if you "blouse" your cover-shirt over the butt of your weapon, printing is as minimal as you can ever get.

Beltman's 1 3/4" wide belt is what I have, but you can get 'em thinner if you like, or special order up to 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" if I recall correctly. The Velcro goes the entire length of the useable inside surface of the belt, so adjusting your carry position is quick and easy.

This combo will set you back around $150 (+/-), but it's a system that's solid as a rock, has outstanding combined warranties, customer service from both companies is top-notch, and there's a better than fair chance that you'll save yourself the expense and frustration of trial and error because the belt was too weak to carry the weight, or you didn't feel confident in the retention, or the system wasn't as versatile with different kinds of clothing as you need etc. Or the absolute worst problem with many IWB systems is they are inherently uncomfortable. If you can't stay comfortable for long stretches, you simply won't carry all the time, and carrying part-time due to comfort issues just isn't necessary when systems like these are so readily available.

Good luck and let us know what you decide. As someone else said, Crossbreed is a sponsor of this site, so if you go that route, make sure you click from here to there. There might even be a USA Carry coupon-code floatin' around somewhere. Not sure about that, but search the site before you order to make sure. Stay safe.

I don't use Crossbreed (yet) - I carry in a custom high-rise OWB (Outside the Waist Band) holster from UBG Holsters (Ugly Bald Guy Holsters) But I swear by the belts from The Beltman. They are, in my honest opinion, the best leather carry-belts available. I have both a bull-hide belt (with internal stiffeners) and a horsehide belt that needs no stiffeners. I love the horsehide belt and wear it every day I wear pants. (No, I don't wear dresses - sometimes I just lay about the house in stretchy shorts, sans belt.) I respect those who choose the tactical look of "instructor's belts", but my dress is not normally tactical. Going to the country club in cammies is frowned-upon.

Blues, I was not aware that the Beltman offered the Velcro linings you mentioned. Now, I may just have to investigate the Cross Bread holsters! That setup (with the custom belt) would seem perfect to me.

For those not familiar with the Beltman's belts, let me assure you that you will never, ever have to buy another belt. They are, without a doubt, the finest belts I've ever seen.

Hey MilShooter, While the Crossbreed is about as comfortable an IWB holster as you can buy, if you've carried OWB for a long time, it will be somewhat uncomfortable by comparison. That said, the flexibility you gain in how you can dress and how deep the concealment is, is worth the trade-off for me.

Here's a couple of vids to demonstrate both the concealability and how the V-Clips work. This first one is short. The guy that made it is using the V-Clips with what he says is a Crossbreed-made belt with Velcro sewn into the inside surface. Same design as the Beltman. Pay attention when the guy pulls his shirt up. You can see the whole area where the clips might be, but even I couldn't see the clips themselves, and I know exactly what I'm looking for!

This next one is a little easier on the eyes, but that's only part of the reason I picked it as an example. This young lady is demonstrating with the regular clips and a holster made for the Ruger LCR, which is a very compact revolver. I wanted you to see this one because that LCR looks huge on this girl, which means she's a very petite woman. But look at how well she can conceal that weapon, and the variety of casual, every-day kind of dress she can use.

Best thing about the Super-Tuck is that it comes as close as possible to eliminating the need for dressing around your gun. That's true with the regular clips, but it's even more true with the V-Clips. I doubt you'd feel like you wasted your money if you bought one. Only limitation with the Velcro system, at least with Beltman, is they don't combine the Velcro strip with the stiffener that you mentioned you have. You probably wouldn't notice it with an IWB holster though.
