New to CCW

Hello all. Just received my CCW and glad I can now protect my family anywhere we go. I have mentally, physically and especially spiritually prepared myself but having extra prayers come my way does not hurt!!

Congrats and welcome. Sounds like you have a sound mind and a conscience, to me that's a really good match. Things will become second nature before long and the tension will ease.its a comfort knowing you can defend you or your family if (god forbid) you ever have too. Practice all you can, when you can. God Bless

If you are married, it is important that your wife train also and receive her ccw if this applies to you. My wife and I both took our ccw together. For several reasons. But two of the several are. I'm not always with her, so she needs to protect the children and herself. And, a criminal will or criminals will try to take out the husband first. And if they succeed. Then the wife may protect You from further damage or even death. And as stated earlier protect herself and the children.

Welcome to the club. It's an awesome responsibility. Glad to see you've given the psychological side of it some thought. If you're not mentally prepared to protect your self and your family, all the training in the world won't do any good.

One thing I started doing when I first filled out the application is to wear my gun around the house. It took me 10 months to finally get my lic so when I did I was already more than comfortable going outside the house with it. Its funny but it feels like I have always carried. Thanks for the encouraging words. I try to get to the range once a week but with work and the price of ammo thats not always the case.

Man if I could get my wife to do her CCW my life would be complete. She does not care for guns too much even though she let me buy her a 357. Its a small revolver with too much recoil on for her. I know I have to do baby steps with her. On the other hand my 16 year old daughter has no problem picking up my 9mm and firing off a few rounds. Thats my lil girl. We did all take classes on safety which as we all know is very important.

I am a recently licensed CCW and am tying to get my wife out to the range so she can get comfortable with handguns. She has never fired a weapon in her life (being born and raised in Germany). I have bought her a .380 and a 9mm for myself. Haven't decided yet on how to carry. I have a belt clip holster and a shoulder holster for the 9mm. The .380 has a pocket holster, but she wants to carry in her purse. Oklahoma also has open carry, but I'm not sure I want to go that route just yet.

Don't give up, I tried to get my wife to get her CCW as soon as I had mine, didn't nag her about but brought it up every now and again. Then one day (years later) a friend of hers told her she was getting one, that's all it took. Signed her up before she could change her mind.

My wife and I both have out ccw. We practice together to. I'm not always with her so I like that she has her ccw. One day I handed her my 92fs with a 30rds mag. Told her a bad guy is in the house coming at her and the kids. Then said what do you do. She unloaded all 30rds into the target.

Reno... congrats and welcome to the forums. I'm glad to see that you have thought well and hard about the issue of carrying. This is important, as you are aware.

Might I suggest dropping the hint of an NRA sponsored "Girls and Guns" class to your wife. My reluctant wife took to that idea very well and she is know a very good shot.

My wife was kinda anti-pistol for years. But after much discussion and showing by example why you need to carry. She came around. So last week I ordered her a XDM bi-tone 9mm compact. She's elicited. And so am I, I want to "share" her gun in USPSA. He he.

Be careful what you wish for. My wife got her permit and I haven't been able to go to the range without her since. I truly think she would go every day if she had the time.
