New to CCW and the forum

Just wanted to introduce myself. I started lurking here not long ago after getting the iPhone app, but decided it was time for an introduction. I'm looking forward to reading the opinions here.

My father and I have been shooting our old guns a lot lately. He has decided to make shooting his new retirement hobby. Both of us have decided to get our concealed carry licenses. Our class is this Sunday. I've been practicing with my Glock 21 and my dad with his Walter p38. Needless to say, neither are the best size for concealing so we're looking at more compact models to use for carrying. Both of us are leaning towards 45 cal pistols so we're exploring our options.

Welcome Broncoman to the best on-line forum for all CC issues and firearm related issues. .45 is a heavy caliber and hence usually a heavier/larger gun to carry. Don't rule out the .40 and or even the 9mm when you are out hunting for a conceal carry gun. You definitely want something that you are going to be able to comfortably shoot and carry, so check form, fit and function...then caliber.

Welcome to the family! The single stack 9mm will probably conceal easiest. I have a Keltec P11 as my everyday carry gun and I love it! Have shot numerous rounds thru it with no problems.

Hi Broncoman,

Glad to have you on the forum. You might look into the Keltec PF-9 (single stack, 9mm, 7rd?) as a potential concealed carry option . . . it won't pack the same punch as a .45, but it was designed with maximum concealability in mind. Of course, the slim grip might be hard on the hand after several dozen rounds, but it dramatically reduces visibility when carried in a pocket or waistband.

Hope that helps,

Lawbro1

I have a CPL and carry a Taurus Millenium PRO in .45 ACP on a daily, and I mean DAILY basis. It is compact inough to go well with an IWB holster by Cross Breed, and I can carry 10+1 rounds of .45 in a nice Remington Golden Saber bullet. Accurate for what it is, and compact enough that most people never even knew I had a CPL for over 2 years.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I wasn't expecting that many responses so fast.

I have been wanting to look at the g36 and g30. I realize the g30 will still be thicker to conceal though. I'm hoping to find a range that rents them so I can try them out. I'm wondering if the g36 would be comfortable to shoot since I have very large hands. I'll also investigate y'alls suggestions. As much as I like my 45 cal I agree that fit and comfort comes before caliber.

My dad is looking at 1911 style pistols. He wants to buy only American made so he's looking at Kimber, S&W, Springfield, and I think Colt. Seems he said the Colts are more pricey than he's wanting to spend.

We'll get through the class first. I've got to manage get to the other side of the city during business hours to get printed and drop off the packet, then I'll start looking more into making a new purchase.

Welcome to the forum. There are a ton of options. Just about anything can be concealed IWB (In the Waistband). You will find some staunch support for about every type of pistol. If your dad likes to tinker, 1911s are for him. (My favorite is a Lightweight Colt Commander) They are great guns, but usually more fiddling to do with them. Glocks are probably ranked most reliable. Maybe not as accurate? Who knows.
There are simply a lot of choices.
Good luck in your search!

I too am new to the forum. So far I've found a lot of usefull information. I have CCW permits for Wisconsin and Florida.

Second the Taurus MilPro, I EDC it in a .40 and its comfortable to carry, shoot and easy on the wallet in terms of price.

Welcome to the new guys and gals, I carry a Colt Combat Commander 45 on a daily basis CCW. Buying good quality gun belts and holsters makes daily carry easy. A lot of very good infomation is available here, hope you are not thin skinned. Again Welcome.

After a Long wait my home state of WI Finally we are able to carry. This looks like a great place to get lots of my questions answered on how, what & when to carry.
