Arguably, while tooling down the road in one of these, you're carrying concealed, but... by the picture in the article, I'm just thinking, what happens with a brain donor putting a defective gun in there while loaded on a hot day... with burning kerosene? The rifle barrels are pointing right at the driver's back. I'd rather the be pointing backward with an angled armour plate to deflect any accidental discharge laterally.

What say you all?

what???
1) what burning kerosene?
2) why would you leave it loaded at all?
3) the scenario you're concerned about also involves the gun being defective?

I just don't understand your concern over this at all.

I would hope that anyone getting this option would have their weapons unloaded for transport. It's not a concealed weapon being carried for defense. The good thing is it's waterproof so there is some protection from contamination. What's wrong with the rear window rack? :biggrin:

tj: Yes, absolutely, you're supposed to store properly functioning firearms, unloaded before transporting like this, but I'm trying to imagine a worst case scenario.

The issues are the rules, "Always assume all firearms are loaded unless holding it in your hands with the bolt open and the magazine empty and visually confirmed." and "Never sweep any barrel across anything you're not willing to blow away."

With these two rules, the guns in the "closet" would be assumed to be loaded and assumed to be intended to discharge into the driver's back.

The article says it's for 'hunters' and that pretty well sums it up. Useless for CC since I won't get out of the truck, load up (or not) and start playing bullet tag. Chrysler is trying to sell vehicles and this scheme undoubtedly came up at a Friday night happy hour attended by the Mopar kids.
Only place I've seen a long gun in TX is hanging across the back window of the pickup - though I haven't seen that in a long time.

Growing up hunting, we always put the rifles behind the seats or in a window rack, but now days I would like to have the waterproof/lockable option to safely secure the rifles. However, I would prefer it if the compartment was below the seats rather than in the side of the bed. Also, I won't buy another chrysler/GM product. Ford is the company that I will support from here on out.
