Bulldog Pride
They (NEW MEXICO) added all those states back just late this evening. They had dropped them all but 5

New Mexico currently recognizes concealed carry permits from or has reciprocal
>> agreements with the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware,
>> Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North
>> Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West
>> Virginia

:laugh::lol:

We will probably see all the states back on the reciprosity list rather quickly. According to an announcement on the NRA's ILA webpage from today, the original list was supposedly a list of those states that has failed the audit, not a list of discontinuance of reciprosity . . you would think that all the states listed would be returned to reciprosity status . . I bet we see some minor changes in New Mexico Law after this fopaw.

The Governor is a Republican...I have said that before in another post. Of course she will have to reinstate the gun reciprocity. I had not lose hope. I just hope it was sooner. We just lost a friend over there.

It's the AG who is in charge of it in NM if my sources are correct. I bet if anything she had something to do with most of those states not being dropped after all.

Good news, indeed.

I wonder what knumb knuts decided to remove all those states in the first place.
Obviously, his/her parents never got married.

Good luck, all.

I heard it was because the other states were letting Mexicans have gun permits. NM isn't going to have any of that s***!

Good to see they can move so fast. Hate to leave the hotel room at 9AM with my gun, have my permit removed from the list at noon and get stopped at 1PM. That would be my luck. Anyone still think that national reciprocity is a bad idea?

It sounds like they need to get their act together and make up their mind.

"...Gotta be on 'em like flies on a cow-pie. NEVER give up!"

Once this issue came to light by peeps from the "New Mexico Gun Rights" Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/275469932469512/ ), around 9:00PM Friday (4/27/2012) mucho chatter, subsequent reaching out to spread the word and proactive "grass-roots" activity was fired-up and continues.

By Tuesday (5/1/2012), after getting the word out, and helping create a Tsunami of emails & phone calls to Gov. Susana Martinez & aides (and simultaneous posts to her Facebook page), the NM Sec. of State and certain individuals at DPS were summoned to the Governor's office to discuss the reciprocity issue. (I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at that meeting!)

As of 4PM on Tuesday (5/1/2012), the NM reciprocity page remained unchanged from what it was since late afternoon on Friday 4/27/2012, when the FUBAR move was apparently instigated...by whom is not quite clear.

Here's a link to the Google cache page from Monday 4/30/2012:

Alternatively, Here is a pdf of the same page you all can download, if interested:

However, within the hour, by 5PM on Tuesday (5/1/2012), after the Governor's meeting, the NM reciprocity page was changed to how you see it now at:

Stating, "This information is current as of May 1, 2012. New Mexico currently recognizes concealed carry permits from or has reciprocal agreements with the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia."

This fight may not be over yet. As one "New Mexico Gun Rights" Facebook group member stated, "Gotta be on 'em like flies on a cow-pie. NEVER give up!", but it also sure helps to have a Governor who has a CCW permit too!

August, 2011 - New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez re-qualified for her concealed carry permit. She got a 100% score with both the .45 and .38 caliber handguns. She has been mentioned as a possible running for Mitt Romney in 2012.

Good news, indeed.

I wonder what knumb knuts decided to remove all those states in the first place...

The radar is on a Mr. Bill Hubbard, (I believe the Director of the CCW program in the NM DPS, under DPS Secretary Gordon Eden). He was contacted on the morning of 4/28/2012 by a member of the "New Mexico Gun Rights" Facebook group who asked him "Who was responsible for making the reciprocity determinations?", he allegedly responded by DROID with:
"We are bound to our statute 29-19-12E that says reciprocity can only be established with another state whose permitting is "at least as stringent or substantially similar" to our own. We then research the actual statutes of the other state and communicate with their officials. A review is made of the findings and final approval or disapproval is made by me. I wish it was as simple as "we recognize theirs if they recognize ours," but that is not the standard set by NM law."

Though not with any certainty, Mr. Hubbard either took it on his own, or was being "handled" by someone, to interpret the NM law as he did. The "audit" angle being promulgated appears to be a "plausible cover" explanation...It's the typical Bloombturd spin to back-peddle and provide a cover to a royal "head-up-arse" move that caught some politco trying to pull a fast one to further a personal agenda, with an "individual" interpretation of the Law!

I heard it was because the other states were letting Mexicans have gun permits. NM isn't going to have any of that s***!
But no matter what the rules are in NM and other states, a BG no matter what culture it came from, illegal or not, do not have to have a permit to have and carry a gun, so why bother with mucking up the already mucked up system? Just my opinion.

Thanks fot the details....

NADA! That false info likely derives from NM not issuing CCW permits to anyone who is not both a U.S. Citizen and Resident of the State of New Mexico.

In that regard, as of last week, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) apparently filed suit in Federal court against the State of New Mexico for violating the civil rights of legal "Resident Aliens" (those with legitimate "Green Cards", who have all the rights of a native-born citizen, except that they cannot vote) by not allowing/excluding them from even being able to apply for the NM CCW permit. "Resident Aliens" are here legally and have gone through the process outlined in Immigration Law as recognized individuals who waited their turn to become welcomed "landed immigrants" on the road to full U.S. Citizenship, as opposed to those who have just "hopped the fence" and snuck into the country thorough an illegal smuggling network or similar maneuver of their own device in violation of Immigration Law.

FYI: NM is one of only 2 states that give "illegal aliens" (here in the U.S. illegally, Mexican Nationals or otherwise) state Driver's Licenses. While Gov. Martinez is herself of Hispanic heritage and a majority of New Mexicans are also of Hispanic origin, the Governor is strongly opposed to this practice and wants it done away with immediately. While the majority of NM legislators, it seems, have trouble understanding what part of "illegal" is actually ILLEGAL, the Governor does not.

Also, "illegal" does not mean "Mexican"...to make that assumption and to say that NM is singling out Mexican Nationals (or otherwise) to specifically be denied CCW permit consideration and that the state "isn't going to have any of that s***!" is quite frankly an ignorant show of racism and racist stereotyping that has nothing to do with the realities in this state, long known for it's historical tolerance or diversity.

I'm very happy to see Gov. Susana Martinez come through on this issue. Without a a doubt she was the impelling force in getting the cancellation of so many states' CCW recognitions reversed. It's astounding that she accomplished it in such a short time particularly in New Mexico were most matters of legal significance have traditionally moved at a sloth-like pace. In any event, I have a son and daughter-in-law in New Mexico and I always carry when I visit. I live in Arizona and have both Arizona and Utah CCWs so...I'm smiling again.
