Sure feel sorry for any criminal that breaks into a home after midnight tonight in NC.

New NC gun laws take effect. So glad we have the right to defend our self without fear of civil or criminal lawsuits if we are in the right to defend our life.

A greatful CC Permit holder

I have been waiting on NC House Bill 650 to come into law tonight for a long time. I was hoping and praying that I was not placed in an issue where I was being threatened and had to use deadly force and then go prove myself in court to avoid jail, prison, or civil court and all the money it would take to do that. I am thankful that NC State government representation got that and for all of them that got this law passed.

Just a few of the new items of the law...We don't have to prove that we tried to flee in our homes, vehicles, our our tents, or place of employment. We can now defend ourselves in our homes or vehicles once they have broken in and we can assume that they intend to do us serious or bodily harm. Before we could only attempy to defend with they were "attempting to break in".

If someone attempts to take us from our vehicle we can defend ourself or our family.

If you are not a NC resident it would do you well to go to the NC gov website and look up the HB650...and read it and fight for it in your state. Also includes NC State rest stops along Interstates, State Parks to a certain extent (Federal Laws alwways outweigh State laws for Federal Parks)...

But anyway...I feel safer tonight. I don't take it as a license to kill...but I do totally appreciate it as a right to defend!

If you are an NC resident please take the time to search out ond read NC HB650 !!

I just hope the bad guy doesn't turn around to run before you shoot him, or her(sorry ladies):):)

Part of your home defense tactics...before you pull the trigger, yell, HEY, LOOK AT THIS! That way, the BG turns around and you get him in the front instead of the back.

Seriously, just kidding. I hope I or anyone here never finds ourselves in that kind of situation. But you can tell I thought about it right? :):)

South Carolina has been like that for quite a while now.

I'm all for broad castle doctrine laws. Tragedies will happen, but on balance we have to allow people to protect themselves in their homes without having to call a lawyer first.

Just want to say this is not a "back at you post" for any comment made here...it's always hard to type and convey emotion.

I just think the new law that will come in tonight for NC...gives me a little more comfort to have the abiltiy to defend my home, my vehicle, my workplace if I am the owner, which my brother and son have.

I always hope and pray I NEVER get put in the position to do anything. I am thankful that a SWAT Team member was my CC Class Instructor...and I am glad "some" LEOs are on our side...most...I don't know but hope so.

Part of what this law does is allow me to protect me and my family until they can get their. In proper defense of that statement...Officers are being cut...and response time is longer...and now they allow me to take control of my life.

I guess the bottom line is I would have done it anyway...but I feel the laws are a little bit more on my side now.

If we could only get businesses to undersatnd that...and allow CC Permit holders in...SERIOUS CC holders...we can save some lives when that other human decides to open fire in a mall...or a school...or rob a bank....with no reguard for human life.

How does a store owner distinguish between a "serious CC holder" and a wannabe Wyatt Earp?

Take a bank for example. Most banks have extensive security plans premised on getting the bad guys out of the bank as quickly as possible. What happens to that plan when a customer decides that shooting it out with the bad guys is the better option?

Plus NC will now honor all other state's CCWs!! I'll have to visit my brother-in-law that lives in Greenville.

for nogods post:

Most of CC Permit holders are serious about what they do and who they want to defend. They are not going to walk into a businnes or bank or mall with the will and intent to kill. Wyatt Earp or not... I would even rather have the Wyatt Earp in the bank when the criminal decides to come in and rob and shoot a teller and have everyone lay down on the floor...becuase guess what...nobody else is going to defend your life.

ALL CC permits holders have had instruction in NC anyway on the laws that even include instruction of the law of stray bullets. I know I can go to prison if my stray bullet kills and innocent person. Four hours of the class is on the law.

I would however like to VERY RESPECTFULLY disagree with the statement about the banks having extensive security plans to remove the bad guys. Every picture and film I have ever witnessed of a bank robbery have NEVER show any bank doing anything about it. I don't see them wanding the criminals when they come in, I don't see trained security guards taking the criminal down for arrest,,,the criminal always gets out of the building> I promise you if you are a bank teller, or someone at a mall when the shooting breaks out and the gun is pointed at you,or a businees owner and you are being robbed.. you will wish one of us would have been around.

These people that do these thing have no reguard for your life, your employees life, your wifes life, or your families life. They know where guns are not allowed. Alot of criminals just shoot someone in the leg becuase they know they will get a lesser time in jail. Alot don't care and shoot to kill...

So as a store owner...I would never keep CC permit holders out...

CC Permit holders for the majority ...are ex military, retired law enforcement, or trraind civilians. Criminals don't care...They enter to steal and rob and kill if they fell like it...

At least I know I have the ability to protect myself and others and have the right to do so now in NC...

As for you... I feel you have the right to believe whatever you want to....

Whats really sad is today i just found out someone broke into my great uncles house and stole two of his wifes jewelry boxes full of gold jewelry. They were not home when it happend.

I was moving out of the apartment my wife and I shared with her son and daughter in law on thanksgiving day and thugs smashed in the door and stole my stepsons 42 inch plasma tv and XBox ans we and my computer. It may only br stuff, but they took his home away from him, raped his sense of (false) security and stuff. Now with the new law in effect, there is no need to run from your own home, let the thugs beware, bust in and carry lead with you when you leave. In my new home across town, I will enjoy the fact that I do not have to retreat in my home.

I proudly (and utterly uneventfully CCed) at my bank for the first time on 12/01. It always struck me as utterly asinine that a place where people routinely take or take from large amounts of currency would be a no carry zone by law!

Am not going to be defensless anywhere--law or no law. Concealed carry is outlawed in banks but open carry is not(in NC).

The new law actually changed that for banks, they now do have to post or you are allowed to carry concealed.

F Y I...Grassroots has solicited help in the Winston Salem area wanting cosigners to assist in filing suit against WS City Council. Council has taken the right to CC in most (52 of 68 parks)within their jurisdiction. Not real sure about Grassroots NC. SC Grassroots I understand was a complete mess. Anyone have any background on this organisation?

As for the castle doctrine effective 12/01, good thing no one came into my rental in November wanting to do harm to me or mine. I WILL defend and protect weather someone has authorized or not. (12 by 6) BUT being new to NC I will have to complete CC course to better educate myself on applicable laws. My SC/Fla CWP cover me whilst CC'ing but I do need to be cognizant of NC's Laws.

Question on the new laws?

With regards to the new laws that went into effect, there are two that seem to conflict. I'm sure I'm missing somthing, but can someone clear it up for me?

Here are the two of the new laws as I understand them:
-  people with concealed carry permits aren’t violating state law by carrying a deadly weapon onto state property if the weapon is a firearm, the person has a concealed carry permit and the firearm is locked in a compartment of a locked vehicle.

• a person with a concealed carry permit may carry a concealed handgun on the grounds or waters of state parks

So my question is are you alowed to carry concealed on STATE park land (like a Falls Lake?) or would you need to lock your handgun in the car in a locked case?

Thanks.
