New Jersey CCW

Hey Everyone,

I am potentially moving from PA to NJ. I know NJ is notorious for being a difficult state to get a CC Permit. To apply you must provide a "justifiable need to carry a handgun."

My question is, isn't self defense enough of a reason? By fluffing it and saying things like "I want to be able to protect myself from any potentially life threatening situations, including but not limited to unlawful carriers of handguns with malicious intent" add any validity to my reason for applying for a CC permit?

Hoping to hear from someone with a NJ permit or someone with a broad knowledge of the topic.

I'm Retired Law Enforcement from NJ, It is almost impossible, You fluffing a self defense excuse wont work. I've heard of Jewelers who carry large amounts of money and jewelery, and some other businessmen get them but it's still very few and hard to get. Other than Phila., Pa. is a much nicer place to live than NJ. If it's for a job consider commuting, but don't bring your gun, it carries 5 with a 3 year min. sentence.

Thanks for your input. Kind of what I was thinking, but I was hoping maybe it wasn't quite as hard as I was hearing... This doesn't apply to me, but my father goes to many auctions and carries a lot of money with him at times. Would that be valid?

Moving to Jersey, bad choice. I live there for 15 years due to a job I had, couldn't wait to get out.

I did the opposite, from nj to pa and I'm so much more happy, its virtually impossible to get a carry there, plus the triple redundant background checking and long wait?

According to the law, not me, you will never ever get a CCW permit in NJ and if you bring any hollow point bullets you will be charge a felony for EACH one. New Jersey is not America. Do not move or travel with a firearm through the state.

forget about it! you will never in a million years get a concealed carry permit in NJ. I won't go into to detail but I can assure you that anything less than bribing a head judge or the governor won't work.

If the OP moves into the State he can certainly bring his HP rounds with him. They can be purchased, owned, and used at a range.

I wouldn't recommend moving to NJ. Permit status aside it's a pretty lousy state. And getting a CCW permit is nearly impossible, about equal to getting one in NYC.

New Jersey is bad news. Stay in PA. I can still recall as a teenager shortly after Casino came to NJ, specifically Atlantic City, watching a gunfight take place on Atlantic Avenue by one of the Casinos. We had to run for cover. Still wonder to this day how TWO people both had guns at the same time.

I grew up in NJ. Was there for about 40 years. I moved to PA 8 years ago, and will never move back, despite my family being there.
You can buy a pistol, but not carry it. Go figure. My brother bought one and it sits in his safe.

Housing is higher, taxes are higher. Gas is cheaper.

The bad guys in NJ still have their guns, but the good guys don't.

If you have to move to NJ due to an unbearable commute or something and need to do it, do what you need to do, but I like being able to carry.

Stay out of NJ I moved here about 12 years ago. I was so against moving here and was the last place on earth I'd thought I move to. Saying that I found Jesus here in NJ and that trumps everything. Every time I commiserate over being here I think of what's most important to me and that is my faith in Jesus. Not saying that NJ is the only place to find Jesus but, it put me closer to someone who was a believer and got me going to a good bible teaching church and kept me away from the things that were wrong in my life. Don't get me wrong I am chomping at the bit to get out of here and prayerfully that will be within 2 years. Good luck on your decision

I retired from the Atlantic City Police Department after 25 year's and could not wait to get the hell out of the state. I have been liveing in Southern Va. now for the past 17 years and would never move back. All of my family live in N.J. and they can't wait untill they retire so that they can move.
