New Gun Recommendations?

I've been with this forum since 2008 but never really post anything. I just read thru the forums occasionally. I bought my first and only gun, a Springfield Armory XD9 4" barrel about 7 years ago. The gun has been excellent for me. I've never had any problems with it and I CC it everywhere I go just about. I think I'm ready for a 2nd gun and was wondering what you guys would recommend for me? I'm looking to stay around the $1000 or less range and I also would need an ambidextrous gun because I can shoot and draw lefty or righty.

Thanks in advance for looking and any recommendations given. I also need to find a site where I can find left handed IWB holsters. I have a Galco right handed IWB holster that I like very much but last time I looked I couldn't find the left handed equivalent.

IMHO..the only truly ambi guns are revolvers. Almost all semi-autos eject the spent casings to the right. So even if you have ambi controls, you still have the problem of casings flying at you when you shoot lefty.

So with that in mind - maybe a hammerless snub nose revolver? Such as a Smith & Wesson Airweight, Ruger LCR, or anything from Charter Arms? Any of these will make a great pocket carry gun as well.

Unless you are looking toward a 1911 or perhaps a Walther,(dual controls) the revolver is a great way to go for the second pistol. Something as a nice BUG. Put it in a pocket or ankle holster.
(The Walther has ambi mag release in the trigger guard. I like mine.)

Good idea Phil on the revolver!

What are you looking to do with this gun? Would it be a CC gun or just a range toy for recreational shooting?

Remember tho that if you are going to pocket carry a revolver as recommended above the cylinder is a nice, big, fat hinderance if you are trying to hide it, IMHO. If you use a holster for it, as you should, there will be even more width added to that.

If you want an auto tha S&W M&P. Ambidextrous slide release, safety (for models with), and magazine release is user reversible. For left handed IWB holster check out Tucker Gunleather. They have sevral designs. I think all are offered in left hand.

I love my S&W revolver, model 642. Small but punchy.... the CTC grips make it an ideal defense weapon. Only downside is the limited number of rounds, but the laser grips ensure you can make them count.

I'm a huge fan of the Beretta PX4 line. If you are buying a weapon for use at home the full size px4 comes in 9 mm, .40 and .45 acp. They are da/sa and shoot like a dream. The rotating barrel design absorbs some of the energy from the shot so perceived recoil is low. For carry the Compact is perfect for me. It has the rotating barrel as well. Some prefer the Sub compact and is certainly a good pistol but I like the extra room on the grip the compact offer.

As far as holsters I have a maxtuck from white hat holsters. I love it. Its even more comfortable than my super tuck from Crossbreed. It conceals perfectly around 3:30 even with a tucked in t shirt. You can get it in right or left and it only took me thirteen days from ordering to have it in hand. I did a full review in the concealed handguns gear forum.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Maybe I should've been a little more specific but I'm really not interested in a revolver.

I was looking into getting another CC gun but after researching some guns I was thinking of having some upgrades done to my XD9 starting with night sights then possibly looking at purchasing the FNP 45 Tactical. That gun looks awesome! I will keep you guys posted if I do decide to buy that handgun.
