New Collecter

I am new to this site and looking to start a gun collection of my own. I was browsing some of the threads but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I live in California (specifically Contra Costa County) and have found that open carry and concealed weapon carries are nearly impossible to obtain. Any advice on starter guns? I would like to start with a hand gun, shot gun, and rifle. Fresh out of the military I have plenty of experience with the M-16 but not much besides that. Any input would be great.

Best advice I can give you is move out of California. Then peruse the selections of firearms in a free state.

I agree. Being in California means u are deep in hostile gun-grabber territory.

Start your collection out slow. Buy each gun around what your going to be using it for (i.e. if you want to go shoot trap don't buy a combat shotgun.) after you know what you're going to be using it for look around at your options and go to a range to try them out if you have one near you. Just post on a forum, "what guns should I buy?" isn't going to get you very far

I think you'd find better answers from a california gun forum. I randomly googled one... and it seems that it could have a better array of ca legal options for you to choose from

Merc; most of us jest and realize that moving is not an option, however, being from the People's Republic of Komifornia is going to make your hobby difficult. No one can tell you the right gun for you. You need to get your hands on and experience as many as you can. For example I LOVE my Mosin. But you may not like the felt recoil or the stiff action. Is it a cool
Collector gun? Absolutely. Valuable? No... Your going to be mainly relegated to hunting rifles and shotguns. The brands are going to depend on what you are into.
