New CCW Permit

I just received my Utah CCP. It took about 5 weeks from mailing the application to receiving the permit.

I live in MD and I go on Monday for interview with Maryland State Police about my MD permit. I'll Keep you posted about that hassle.

Good luck on the Maryland permit, heard that can be tough. If you travel alot, go for the Florida or Virginia permit, preferably Fla, but you ont need them both. Just out if curiosity, why did you go for Utah before Fla or Va? They offer more reciprocity than Utah.

Michigan CPL is recognized by almost all states I think there are maybe 3 that don't. Not positive but seems I remember being told that. And good luck with the troopers

Michigan is a resident only issue state, but it covers all but 9. I got my Utah a week ago, as well as FL and NH. I am going on a trip an 3 days and Utah cover the couple FL didn't.

They are almost identical with reciprocity. Florida is probably more desirable because it covers Florida and all of the states that Utah covers. The Utah permit only covers Florida if you are a resident of Utah. I got Utah basically because the CCW class was offered at my Bass Pro and it included Utah and permit was only $65.

I most likely will get the Fla. permit at some point because, even though I do not travel alot, Florida is a place I like to go on vacation. I would be able to drive to Florida and carry through every state between MD and Fla, except I would have to stop unload and lock up while going through South Carolina. Since I do not own any property in SC, I do not see that permit in my future.

I've been looking into getting a non-resident permit, either Utah or Florida. This being the first time I've applied for such a permit can anyone explain what needs to happen? From what I've read all I have to do is satisfy the training requirement and then send the proper forms and fees to the state?.

Thanks in advance for any information.

That is basically all you need for Utah and Florida. Utah requires a certified course on handgun safety, but no actual hands on training. Florida requires a hands on course to certify that you are familiar with handling and firing a gun. They are both very similar with there reciprocal states, but Florida is 1 of 4 states in the country that will not recognize non-resident permits from other states. If you want to carry in Florida you will need a Florida permit. If you are ex-military or have taken an NRA shooting course or hunter safety course and do not have any convictions or domestic violence issues then you can get the Florida permit.

Well, I am a little shocked to report that I just received my MD CCP in the mail this past Friday. I figured I had 50/50 shot at it, but was not too optimistic that they would give me a permit. I had no worries about my background it was the G&S Reason that MD requires to have. I had that reason and I guess the MSP agrees. Hopefully MD is on the way to becoming a shall issue state and all law abiding citizens will have the right to carry in the near future, without having to be robbed, assaulted, threatened, etc....

i did the florida class they really don't teach much about handling guns just had to pick up the instructers revolver aim at a really really close target like ya couldn't miss it pull trigger and put the gun back down on table that was it
they gave an easy ten question test which the instructor gave all the answers too as well any idiot could pass it
