going to purchase an ar-15 very soon and don't want to spend but about $800 on it. nothing fancy other than some sort of optic. there are literally thousands of manufacturers out there and i am looking for some guidance. i don't want to overspend but i don't want to buy a piece of crap either.

i am retired and 800 bills is substantial in my budget. so.............little help?

I've got to think that Smith & Wesson's M & P 15 Sport is the best bargain out there. It's not the ultimate AR, but it's not junk either. I looked at them, but for $1,000 delivered I got a Rock River Elite Operator. The M & P can probably be found for $600-$679, leaving a few bucks for entry level optics.

You can get a Bushmaster AR for 700$ at budsgunshop.com. With a scope.

Otherwise like the other guys said SW or Dpms.

Just remember its cheaper in the long run to get the AR you want than to buy a cheap one and fix it up the way you want.

You could always buy a kit and build it yourself. Kits can start around 400-450 and you can have a project. That what I'm doing.

This AR is an excellent value with everything you want quality wise and is under $800.
