Net gun...

Ok I am not sure if this would go in Less-Lethal or Air guns, Ill just drop it here, any mod can feel free to move it if they think it goes somewhere else.

OK I have seen a couple and keep thinking about getting one... Mostly for the sh!ts and giggles aspect of it. Anyone actually played around with one before?

I know there is a company in Austin TX that makes one for about $200 there is also a "How To" so you can make one yourself.

I've see something like that used to take down wild animals, but the one I was was more in the form of a long gun and shot the net a lot faster and farther, or so it seemed.

Yea, I'd put that in the 'less than lethal' list.

But if the perp had a gun, he could still get a bunch of shots off. I wonder how it would work if the net was hooked up to a Taser somehow?

I saw a net gun used to capture Arnold in The Running Man. It's obvious that getting out of that net would take up precious TIME. Depending what it's made of, even a good knife might take considerable time to get you free.

I've seen various such ideas in science fiction novels. One that interested me, was a "tangle gun." It fired a projectile like an egg, which you aimed at the fleeing suspect's feet. Upon impact, it burst, throwing out super sticky "tendrils." It would entangle the subjects feet just as effectively as a South American Gaucho using a Bolas. With today's technology in adhesives, aerosols, quick expanding/foaming synthetics, etc. I'd think it's a possibility. Naturally, one would carry a spray can of "release agent" that liquified the tendrils.

From time to time, I've even wondered if a tough "cargo net," suspended from hooks surrounding your door before retiring in the evening, would seriously impede a team of invaders who smashed the door with a ram.

Entanglement can be effective. And it's passive. You aren't doing the subject any harm. Sure you can beat the crap out of him after he's entangled, but you don't have to, and the net didn't harm him.

Jesus that the perfect idea for my next project. Found some nice and simple plans for building a net gun real cheap maybe just lay the net out and wrap in some copper wire and hardwire one of those little tasers so a piece of plastic blocks the battery connection till fired. Have that piece tied to the net gun so as the net leaved the taser attached to the copper wire stays with the net pulsing as it sails through the air.... This could be both a brilliant idea or horrible one... Well it looks like mr. BG got shot with a taser net and fell ontop of the taser so we were unable to free him and his heart stopped from the electricity...
