Need suggestions

I am preparing to carry concealed. Call me old school, but I would prefer to carry a SA/DA auto with external hammer so I can cock/decock manually. Any suggestions?

I feel the same as you do, which is why I CC either my Beretta 84F when I need a compact, or my 96 Brigadier when I can take the big boy. I have come close to buying a Glock or similar striker-fired, hammerless weapons quite a few times, but something just freaks me out about them. I just like DA on the first shot, probably because when I was younger and didn't have a lot of cash, I used to CC an old Colt Mustang cocked and locked and I was always a little worried I was going to shoot myself in the ass someday.

I'm confused. Are you specifically ruling out a decocking mechanism? If so, I carry a CZ 2075 RAMI that fits that bill exactly. However, the only complaint I have about my RAMI is that it doesn't have a decocking lever. It's much easier to have a negligent discharge while manually dropping the hammer than with a decocking lever, though I do it every time I unload/reload the weapon, and have never had a ND, but I still hate having to drop the hammer on a loaded chamber.

If you're not ruling out a decocking lever, your choices are wide open. Many S&W models, Beretta, Ruger, heck, just about every manufacturer (except Glock) that makes handguns make models that are SA/DA with decockers. I'm not even sure who besides CZ makes them like my RAMI without one. I'm sure some do, but I'm not sure why that would be a preference.

I am New to guns. I carry Ruger Sr40c... I would love an FNH-FNX 40. I have read it pays to get good at either striker or hammer fired gun, but not to inter mix them.

I carry a hammerless Springfield XDm and feel completely comfortable carrying it hot. My wife on the other hand prefers her Beretta SA/DA with decocker. I know to keep my finger off the trigger until I am ready to destroy whatever I am pointing at. We both train every year with our local Sheriffs department, and trust me, they are very serious about safety. If they even hinted that my pistol is less safe than one with a decocker, I would trade it in in a heartbeat. They have taught me that the chances of a ND with my pistol is the same as any other pistol. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire. Simple as that. Now I understand that there can be issues, such as clothing catching on the trigger if doing a sloppy reholster to concealled position, but I think you lessen even this chance for an ND with continued practice and training.

My Ruger has a manual safety. I see the point of PASSIVE SAFETIES. Technology works as long as you are the main safety. I think I could handle my firearm south manual safety HOT.

Absolutely. Beretta PX4 Storm Type-F. SA/DA with safety/decock lever. Subcompact in 9mm or .40 cal. Fits nicely in pocket or IWB. Very nice gun. I recommend at least looking at one before making a decision.

I agree wholeheartedly with your suggestion of a good weapon to buy, but I'm still not sure that the OP wasn't specifically ruling out a decocking lever for some (inexplicable) reason. I wish he would post again to clear that up.

You are on the cusp of getting it right. FN5.7X28. Light, 20 rounds, incredible velocity and accuracy at long distance, lo recoil. Just love it and luckily sill have around 1000 rounds to practice with and a special box of extra special home defense that will splatter pretty good.
