Need Info on Carry Options...Flying from Florida to LA, then driving back

My brother and I are finally bringing our sister back home to Pensacola after 25 years. He is flying to LA to get our sis and her dog, then driving back to Florida. He is concern about traveling the highway for such a long drive without a personal protection device, a gun. We both got our Florida CCW permits about 6 months ago. We are both new to the CCW community and read whatever we can to learn more about CCW. We do realize CA is jacked up on the CCW permits.

We have been discussing our options and need some suggestions.

Air travel to LA..
We choose not to jump though all the hoops traveling our skies with a gun. Is it possible to breakdown the gun and fedex it to LA to ensure it is there when he arrives? Do we send the rail in one package and the other parts in another? Put it together we he arrives then hits the highway. Can you fedex ammo?

if this is not possible with fedex, the next option would be to purchase one on the road. this should not be a problem, right?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not lawfully prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person provided the firearm is unloaded and stored in a locked container.

The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026.1.

There is a lot of good info there. For entry into the state, see the section for new residents. Seems that you can bring them in without issue.

Just so you know, you would not be able to purchase a handgun along the way, legally anyway. All handgun purchases must go through your home state and are subject to their transfer laws. This isn't to say that you couldn't stop in Arizona and buy one in a private sale, it would just be illegal for you to do so as a resident of FL. Also, If the gun you bought turned out to be stolen, that's a world of hurt you don't want to enter. No way that I know of to check 100% without involving an FFL or LEO and neither one of those would allow the sale to take place.

I'm not a lawyer so, read the statutes and interpret them for yourself. I hope this gives you a place to start. Welcome to the site.

I just saw your link, CA is tricky. Don't get your info from here, you will no doubt get in trouble if you depend on this site as gospel.
