Good afternoon I live in Rockland, Ny and need help on what to say/write to county Judge why I should carry. Can someone help me put together a letter that will help me change my sporting/hunting/traget license into a full Carry. Thanks

I work in the city as a Project Manager and I start my own cleaning company in Rockand. I work after hours and feel the need to protect myself and staff.

...That is a good start. You may word it this way: "I work in the city as a Project Manager and I started my own cleaning company in Rockland. I work after hours and I would like to be able to protect myself incase of a deadly encounter". Don't mention protecting your staff. They are NOT your responsibility to protect. don't come across as a "sheepdog"You may want to do a little research on how much more violent crimes happen after dark in your particular area ( I bet there is a bunch more percetage wise) If you put some current REAL statistics (briefly) from your local LEO agancy in your letter, you should not have to say anything else. You may even leave out the statistics. All Judges are different.
Keep it short simple and to the point. You should be fine.

I am in the process of writing to judge Kelly in Rockland. I have decided to retake an NRA certified safety course because I don't have a certificate (so that is delaying the process.) Also I figure that having recently taken the course is better than stating that I took it 19 years ago when I got my restricted permit.

Please let me know how it works out for you. Was the letter enough or did you need to appear before the judge. Thanks a lot and good luck.

I am not sure how to say this in any way other than straight and true. YOU are writing a letter to the judge. What is it about YOU that is misunderstood? I am sorry if this is bothersome but if you cannot find the words to secure a CCWP, no one else should be filling in for you with comments or suggestions. Once again, I apologize for the tone of this reply.

I suspect you'll get more responses if you throw up a rough draft and ask for editing help. Like kelcarry already said, you've got to get the basic details with rationale down on paper for starters. No one else knows your particular circumstances well enough to do that for you.

Thank you rudiepop that was all I need to get started. I will keep you posted on the out come. @ rbgiantfan I also have Judge Kelly so I will let you know how it turned out. For everbody else keep your negative comments to yourself, why even bother repling if you have nothing helpful to add.

Thanks for the constructive suggestion. As for kelcarry's comments, I wasn't expecting anyone to write my letter for me. If you reread my posting I merely asked to hear about the outcome and whether a letter was enough or if he needed to appear before the judge.

It bothers me that I even need to give a reason why I want to carry other than "because I choose to". I was born and raised in Vermont but my career took me to downstate NY. At least I can carry while I'm visiting...
