Is this true???California has just been investigated on how they hand out their permits. They are now a "shall issue" State. If you are declined take them to court...

I lived in Stockton for 30 years and one reason I left was the inability of average citizens to get concealed weapon permits. At times those in power seemed proud of their policy. Anyway if you want to proceed the odds are much greater of getting a permit IF you must carry lots of cash or valueables as part of your job. BUT there will probably be conditions on the permit stating where and when you may carry. You MUST take a class to qualify and I would do that first. Then find a person who you can talk to personally who has a carry permit to get a feel for the requirements the law enforcement agency may require. If you live in the unincorperated part of the county you must apply to the Sheriff. If you live in a city you have a choice, check to see if they(the police department) are issueung, or you can still try the Sheriff. Now IF you could move to neighboring Calaveras County it is practicly 'shall issue' with no or few restrictions, and the permit would still be good in San Joaquin County. I have been told the Sheriff of San Joaquin County ran for office saying he would grant more permits but then went back on his promise. Remember California is a 'may issue' state and most metropolitan law enforcement agencies rarely issue. Whatever you do, DONT apply and list the 2nd amendment as your reason, it will get you nowhere. Send me a PM letting me know how it went and good luck. You will need it.
There is a new judgment. You can not be required to take a class first.

The reason why I said take the class first was that IF the OP was not as familiar with guns as he should be, a refresher CCW class would look better when starting the application process. It is true that while you are not required to take the class first, it does make you look more serious and definitely more knowledgeable during the interview with the Sheriff's office. The class will teach you the applicable laws as well as range time. During the interview you MIGHT be asked a question about the law and having gone through the class you would be much better able to answer in a manner that makes you look better. Also it would show that you are a good shot if you are. When you apply for a carry permit in California you need as much help as possible. Been there and done that. Besides ALL of us could use some training once in awhile. I do wish the OP well and do want him to contact me with any news.
