NC Concealed Carry through SC in vehicle

As a NC CCW holder I travel with by Taurus 738 in the drivers door pocket. If I go into SC do I have to remove, unload and place in center console?

In SC, you can carry a loaded gun in the glove compartment. No need to lock or unload it. Do NOT put it under the seat. If you have a NC resident CCW then you can also carry on your person.

Cool thing about SC is the gun does not have to be unloaded, it just cant be on you. I took my Glock 22 down to Florida last time i went for those 2 a.m. gas ups and i read the NRA cheat sheet from this site before i went, check it out its very helpful. The gun can be loaded but cannot be on your person so yours might be fine where it is. I simply took my holster off and put it in the center console. Safe travels to you.

Like they said, you cannot keep it in an open compartment such as a map shelf in your door nor under the seat. You can keep it loaded and put it in the center console or glove compartment as long as it can be closed, doesn't need to be locked just closed. I would just put it in a holster concealed on your person and leave it there as S.C. honors N.C.'s Concealed Weapons Permit. Bill

If the person has been issued a concealed weapons permit pursuant to Article 4, Chapter 31, Title 23, then the person also may secure his weapon under a seat in a vehicle, or in any open or closed storage compartment within the vehicle's passenger compartment;

Hope this helps.

As stated, South Carolina honors a North Carolina carry permit. Holstering the gun may be a safer move for you. I understand that driving a car is not the most comfortable carrying position. The last thing you want is the gun dropping to the ground in full view if you open your car door too quickly.

Big Spur, even with a CWP I don't think you are allowed to stow a loaded gun under your seat in SC. If it is not on your body then it needs to go into a console or glove compartment that closes.

This bill has not been passed so it is not in effect. You cannot travel with your gun under your seat or in an open compartment. It must either be in your console, glove compartment, trunk or concealed on your person. Some do interpret the AG opinion to include a "briefcase" beside you or lying beside you while covered but that is not a sure thing.

Hey Y'all: I read thru the replies and there was a little conflict in comments. Methinks FN has it right. You CAN carry concealed on your person as you go thru SC from NC and, I believe vice versa. I think all agree about console storage of loaded firearm as being lawful but NOT under your seat.

With a CWP, you CAN carry on you or in a glove box or console. Without, it is only in the glovebox or console, or trunk for that matter, as much good as that does . FN is right.

FN and Cutter have it right, NC SC have reciprocity agreements. You can CC while driving or as mentioned above; Glove box, Console or Trunk. The weapon does NOT have to be unloaded. IF you do not have a CWP, weapon LOADED can be carried in Glove box, Console or Trunk. For further info, please consult the link: Link Removed
