NC Concealed Carry in Parks, Bars, and Restaurants?

I've been a CCH holder in NC since about 2004. In that time, it has been illegal to carry in parks, bars, or restaurants that serve alcohol.

I have young kids, and we visit many local state parks, so these have always been defenseless victim zones, and also places we frequent.

In the past week, I noticed at both a state park as well as a local city park that the Rules & Regs signs have been 'taped over' in the areas where it used to show the 'firearms prohibited' sign. That part of the sign is now blank (covered with reflective tape that matches the background of the sign) and there is an amendment on each sign that states concealed carry is permitted with the proper permit.

Hallelujah!!!

Yet, even doing some reading, googling, and even talking to other local CCH friends, nobody seems to have a clear understanding of what changed. There was a bill that was supposed to allow park/bar/restaurant carry, but it is unclear to me if it has passed or not. In other words, I am confident in carrying at the park now, it is clearly posted. However, the rest of that bill, I'm unsure of.

Generally speaking, I use common sense. I really don't go to bars but my kids dig Chili's and Applebee's kinds of places, both of which have bars. It would be nice to know/find/read a published NC article or law that states this is now a permitted carry zone.

Thanks in advance- I'm admittedly not well versed in how the laws change or where to look for this info. I follow the news, but that is always after the fact.

There was too much confusion around the state because counties and city's could regulate there own parks. The state said **** it and on Dec 1st they signed a law making carry legal in any park in the state.

I am relatively new to CC in NC myself, but I believe the law (HB-650) was changed in 2011 to allow for legal CC in State Parks: http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/Sessions/2011/Bills/House/PDF/H650v5.pdf

There was an attempt to change the law this year to allow CC in locations where alcohol is served. That was stalled and was not passed, so it is still illegal to carry anywhere alcohol is served.

Awesome! It's progress. I work from home, and my kids are in elementary school, so 95% of the places we go on a regular basis (school and parks) are off-limits for my gun. This literally cuts that down to about 50%. Still wish they weren't defenseless victims at school, but I'll take any progress I can get!

How do I follow along so I'll know if/when the alcohol issue passes or fails, or how can I show support for it?

Contact your local rep and senator! You can find out who they are here: Link Removed

You can also see their voting record to see how hard you have to work and making them see the light.
