NC CCW Application

Does anyone know what the current wait time on a CCW App is taking for an approval in NC? Is there a deadline they have to meet? I'm coming up on 90 days wait.

Varies widely depending on the county you live in. Due to volume of applications and the mental health checks required, it is typically beyond the 90 period. Couple of friends that got theirs recently had to wait about 4 months from the time they were fingerprinted. Smaller counties seem to issue them quicker than the larger counties due to the sheer volume of applications.

Thanks. I'm in Buncombe County and my fingerprint date was May 3rd in early am. So you figure I may be close then? I thought we were told in the pre-CCW class that they had up to 90 days but no more. Does this sound familiar? I may be wrong on that though. I had to have gotten the idea from somewhere. Those things don't just jump into my mind. Thanks for the reply.

I'm in Buncombe also, and the two friends that got theirs earlier this year waited about 4 months. One is a deputy but wanted to have a CHP for travel, and even as an active deputy had to wait 4 months.

90 Days is how it reads if you look up the actual statute. Though vague, the sheriff will tell you that the 90 days starts once they get all the mental health checks back from the different hospitals. If you are a vet, the VA is known to be slow in returning theirs.

Our Sheriff is a very pro 2A guy, and I have talked to him about carrying several times. Sorry he is retiring at the end of his term.

Good news is renewals go much quicker, as my barber got his in about 30 days, and I'm coming up on the need to renew, which can now be done online.

He announced in April that he would not run for re-election. Got his time in, and his term ends in 2019. He also made the decision due to health reasons, as he has a form of MS.

A far cry from the previous sheriff who is still cooling his jets in a Federal Prison for stuff he pulled in office.

You mean Bobby Medford. Yeah he was sick to. I'm surprised he is still alive. Had the biggest video poker set up in the county and even had his deputies running it for him. I knew Bobby well. I had a Gunsmithing business he had to sign off on.
