A conservative would read that sentence as follows:

-If they make a law which the Constitution does not authorize, it (the law) is void-

But a liberal would read that sentence as follows:

-If they make a law which the Constitution does not authorize, it (the Constitution) is void-

Oliver Ellsworth has been dead for about a 150 years and it is up to the SCOTUS. And if and only if we keep the Democrats off the SCOTUS will we have the existing 2nd Amendment.

In practical terms, the Second Amendment doesn't exist as-written. Your wish to further degrade The People's fundamental right to keep and bear and subvert said right to the governmental authorities under the Commerce Clause, is comparable to digging up a dead-and-buried victim of lung cancer so you can remove the cancerous lung.

I have always been a supporter. However, unless the White House gets an occupant of a different persuasion there is no hope it will be an automatic veto. Look at the bipartisan bill to allow families to sue the nations about 9/11. For the first time both parties are on board but the "Muslim in Chief / Semi Pro Golfer" is just sitting there waiting with his veto pen. So unless Trump can stay on course and not say anything stupid, and perhaps something will stick to Teflon Hilary this will get an automatic veto next year. After all Hilary likes the 2nd amendment along with some reasonable thoughts like Australia's confiscation policy.
