National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill

With this new National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill if it passes it will allow anyone with a CCW to carry in all states who have CCW. So, basically if you are from PA you can carry in New Jersey because now with law New Jersey has to comply with reciprocity laws. How will this effect me who lives in New Jersey and cannot get a NJ permit but, have a FL and VA non resident? Can I carry in NJ or does it only apply to resident CCw holders. Thanks

As NJ law stands right now, yes you could carry in NJ with a FL/VA/PA permit.

If NJ changes it's law...simliar to what DE and KS have...where residents must have a home state permit...IE a DE resident must have a DE permit to carry in DE....then you'd have a problem.

Thanks mrjam2jab but, knowing New Jersey they already have a bill in place to stop anyone they can just in case it does pass. We all know how NJ feels about guns let alone letting law abiding citizens carry them.

(If passed) I wonder how this will affect places were you need a license not only to carry but to "have a gun".

I'm glad they specifically mentioned Puerto Rico... but they do require a licnese to have a gun there :wacko:

using a Fla. permit to carry would not be allowed..jersey is firm that the 2A rights end at the front door....until nj removes the justifiable need requirement,,were screwed......
the judges,polys and the AG in nj are anti gun........I'd bet a million bux DC,NJ and NYC would fight for an exemption to the law before allowing ccw

The passage of this bill would really be a miracle. I think that it would be just too. Just like that guy who got arrested in NJ for his legal firearms. Getting treated like a damned criminal.

I don't really know how that would play out though, especially given how varied local laws are currently. Gun laws are so mixed up that they don't even agree within states sometimes. For instance, in my county there is a law on the books that prohibits carry in county parks. One quick trip to the state laws and what do you know? state law preempts local laws on where it is acceptable to carry. Legislating cock wits want to make the laws, they don't want to know the laws.

I bet that if this national carry bill makes it to a vote the Democrats will be arguing for states rights and try to secede.

Why would anyone promote this? The 2nd amendment gives everyone this right. To allow this bill basically says states can set limitations on the 2nd amendment, which I don't agree with. Whether you believe the 2nd amendment means anyone can carry any weapon, (including a leopard on a leash, lol) or there should be reasonable restrictions, does not matter in regards to this bill. States rights, which I believe in, cannot over rule the bill of rights.

While I like the idea behind the bill, it makes me wonder how many "May Issue" states will try to become "Right Denied" states (like Illinois) in an effort to circumvent the bill if it becomes law.

It's my understanding that a state that doesn't issue a permit at all won't have to worry about complying. In the end the bill could end up hurting those fortunate enough to have permits in states like CA or NJ.

I've always believed that it "SHOULD BE" the progessive socialist states that secede.

Afterall, it is the "progressive" democrats that have problems with the United States of America; (and the Constitution).

According to FEDERAL LAW it is illegal to carry a loaded firearm within 1000 feet of a school unless that person has a carry permit issued to him by the state in which the school is located. This means for instance that even though Idaho recognizes my Washington CPL I would still be in violation of FEDERAL LAW if I carried my firearm within 1000 feet of a school in Idaho. I have read the proposed law and support it. I seems to indicate that the FEDERAL GUN FREE SCHOOL ZONE LAW would then not apply to out of state permit holders. But it does not say so explicitly. Opinions anyone? Any lawyers want to guess?

In 1993 when I got my ccw, reciprocity was non existant. I honestly believe the anti gun people slipped the "issued by the same state" clause as a means to defeat reciprocity, should it eventually come. The whole 1995 law needs to be reworked.

Back in the '80s when I was in High School, students were allowed to bring hunting rifles and shotguns to school during hunting season. The parent had to send a note and the gun had to be cased and stored in the principal's office as soon as the student arrived at school. As soon as school was dismissed in the afternoon, we went hunting! My, how timid this country has become....

It seems like a repeal of national firearms regulation would be a better step. But I suppose we should take what can be taken for now.

I don't know too much about federal regulation except that it is unconstitutional when it inches past "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED".

You are lucky to have known such times. When I was in school I was acting up and raising hell and all the teachers would do is tell me how much potential I had rather than whack me on the back of the head.
