Natioanl Parks and Handguns

The most recent information I can find says it is allowed to carry a handgun in National Parks, with due exceptions in federal buildings and state laws, as of Feb 21, 2010.
I happen to have a Florida Concealed Weapon License and Florida has reciprocity with the State of Virginia, where Shenandoah National Park is.
I don't plan to actually carry my handgun but will keep it my car.
Does anyone know any different?
thanks

You are correct. you can carry a handgun loaded in a National State park except inside the state office buildings, Federal buildings of the park. Since you are a Virginia resident (I'm assuming here, since I cannot verify that you are) and have reciprocity with the state of Florida you can carry in the State with no issues.

Now with that being said, you also need to verify by calling the state park and local police just to be sure.
Also take the full names of the people you talk to on the phone

Calling the police for legal advice is a bad idea. It would be like asking the 18 year old Jiffy Lube oil change jockey to overhaul your NASCAR engine before the big race. All you will get is the person's opinion on the phone which may or may not be remotely close to what the actual law is.
