Hi! I've had fun over the years hanging out with the guys on their gun forums, so I thought I'd come and see how the ladies roll! :biggrin:

I wanted to see how the ladies roll too, so I pushed one down a hill. they don't roll like a car tire and they bounce quite a bit, but the problem is, they come back up the hill and sock you in the eye.... It's very dangerous, I don't recomend ever doing it.
 
Welcome. Women are moving up in the gun world as the firearms industry finally figures out that it has been ignoring one half its market. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
 
Welcome, Winny Wench, from SW Colorado. I wish my wife and elder daughter were as welcoming to firearms as you are. My younger daughter has always been a supporter, and is a better shot with a handgun than I am.

CharlieK, you and I are in the same boat with regards to the wife and daughter. As a matter of fact my entire family believes that I am a bit too paranoid and that having guns, much less being a CCW holder, is a bit over the top. They honestly feel that since we have never been victims of violent crime that we probably never will be. I told my dear wife of 21 years that she can stay in her security bubble she is in if need be but that I am going to be prepared for the "what if's" of life. It would be nice if my family were on board with me. I am not talking about walking around being afraid of their shadow. I would settle for a more keen sense of situation awareness on their part. Does that make sense? How do you overcome this?

Get them each a purse sized can of pepper spray, or a like size tazer.... they will have more security and you will have more piece of mind while they are out alone.... they also sell pretty pink and purple hand guns,,, I saw them at the store..They look to be perhaps 380 or something like that,,small and purse sized.... show them the pretty colors, they will want one......
 
Hi Charlie,

I think one way to get them more comfortable with guns is to purchase (if you don't already have) a .22 cal handgun that doesn't kick too hard and take them to the range to get used to that. When they are nice and comfy with it, they can move on to train with whatever they choose as their CCW. Hope this helps!

It depends on the situation. Sometimes all a girl needs is some good OC spray. I like Fox Labs. Other times I will only feel comfortable with my S&W .38 revolver on my hip. The key there is practice, practice, practice so that if the time comes to use it (God forbid) she will be ready to rock -n- roll and save you and your family a lot of hurting later.
 
Hi CharlieK - Have them talk to a Victim's Advocate, either through your local prosecutor's office or women's shelter.

No one ever thinks they're going to be the victim of a violent crime - I sure didn't, not in the quiet college town I grew up in...till I was sitting on the floor at work with a 9mm semi-auto pressed against the back of my head and heard the guy take the safety off.

What kinda guns you got? CCW? For hunting? For range practice and just for fun? Inheritances count, too.

I keep a S&W .38 or .357 J Frame for CCW (as well as my Fox Labs OC spray), & a gaggle of .22s for fun. A .44 Magnum Winchester rifle, AK, and G Series FAL for range practice and fun. My hunting guns are all shotguns, from the ancient inheritances to the Remington that is my favorite. I primarily hunt birds.

I'm lucky enough to be in Washington state where I can live in Seattle and drive less than 300 miles to the other side of the state where people are a lot more conservative and have more land. Yourself?

Sounds like were birds of a feather.
My primary carry is a Mauser 1934. 32auto... I have a ruger new vaquero chambered in 357mag for when I'm feeling old school.
I also have a ruger GP100 DA in the same 357mag... An AK 223 ( my SHTF gun) Next in line would be a Mossburg 12Ga. 8shot ( also a SHTF gun) For hunting I prefer My Rossi Lever 357mag.. Nice feel always on target.. just a piece of art. A winchester 30/30 lever, also nice, but heavy, I don't use it much..... 22mag bolt, nice rifle.... 22 bolt also nice, very accurate and fun plinking gun. Last but not least, 20GA break barrel single shot.. your average shotgun. Nice, lite and goes Bang everytime....

I'm lucky enough to live in CT. where you need a permitt to take a piss... Damn Democrats...
